Bobby and Jemima Q&A

Your names:
Matthew Shaw and Charlese Allen.

Where are you from?
Matthew is from the city of Liverpool and Charlese is from the seaside resort of Lytham St. Annes, both in North West England.

Name of band:
Bobby and Jemima.

Who else is in your band?
Just the two of us but we have other musicians join us sometimes.

How would you describe yourselves?
We have been playing together for... well, years. We have a fluidity, which is reflected in our repertoire, spanning and fusing genres together to create a heady, high energy and frankly ballsy experience.
Zero pretensions, Bobby and Jemima are all about the joy and love of music. Multi-instrumentalist 'Bob' has a guitar style which seems to have hitch-hiked Route 66 as a daily commute for the last 60 years. Providing not only the backbone of the songs but fleshing them out and dressing them in bell-bottoms whilst Jemima's deep and soulful vocals arrest attention, take it in for questioning and release it having been dealt a good spanking. The band are nearing completion of a debut album. Keep an eye out.

Who are your main influences musically?
Our influences range from real old school blues, soul and funk and occasionally folk based music, dichotomy heaven! We are still trying to figure that one out. We are inspired by people like James Jameson, in fact all the funk brothers, Steve Gadd, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Betty Davis, Carole King and many many more.. too many to list!

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To us it's all about being able to keep making music, without having to get a real job! Also to keep trying to improve all aspects of our music.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Meeting Jamie Cullum and getting some great feedback on our music.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Errrrrrrrrrr I can't remember!!

If you could choose one of your songs as an advert for your music, what would it be and why?
We only have a couple of original songs recorded at present. One of them is 'Hard Kinda Woman', which we performed for Jamie Cullum in London and has been played on BBC Radio Lancashire.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
We are currently recording our debut album which should be released in 2013.
