Two Weeks Running Q&A

Your name:
Jon Wilkes (guitar).

Where are you from?
Bolton, England.

Name of band:
Two Weeks Running

Who else is in your band?
Phil Alstead (vocals), Sam Goulding (drums), Alex Goulding (bass), Joe Martos (guitar).

How would you describe yourselves?
Full-throttle guitar pop with jagged beats, frantic rhythms and pulsating choruses.

Who are your main influences musically?
We listen to a variety of music between us. Modern day bands such as The Maccabees, Foals, The Cribs, The Strokes, to older bands such as The Kinks, T-Rex, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. One band which started it all for us when we were younger though is Blink-182. Not necessarily a band that you would be able to hear in our music nowadays but it's the band that made us all want to pick up an instrument in the first place when we were all 13 years old.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To be able to make a comfortable living for ourselves whilst providing the world with some half decent music rather than the trash that you tend to hear in the charts nowadays.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
There have been lots of small ones so far. Supporting acts such as The Wombats and Reverend Of The Makers stand out but also just seeing people enjoying themselves at all of our shows and receiving feedback on the EPs which everyone seems to be buzzing off. Radio 1's Steve Lamacq recently sang our praises in the recent BBC Introducing Masterclass so it was nice to have someone with such an established musical career say positive things about you.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
There have been more highlights for us fortunately however one thing that stands out is a gig which we played in Manchester when we first started out. It was poorly organised and the promoter hadn't even arranged for a sound guy to be there so one of our mates ended up doing the sound. We were the only band who brought fans along out of about 8 acts on the bill and then the promoter started kicking off with one of our fans. Needless to say, a riot broke out in the crowd and the promoter did not come out on top. It was actually quite funny in the end. The venue actually apologised to us and got us a round of drinks in which was nice of them.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I think that we would all be in agreement that 'Waste Of A Day' is our best song to date. It's the latest song that we have written and have not released it just yet. It's got everything in there. Cool guitar riffs, funky bass lines, and a MASSIVE chorus. We've played it a couple of times live and it has had a great reaction. We've just recorded a hilarious video for it which will be released over the next couple of months so keep your eyes peeled!

Where can we listen to it?
You will soon be able to watch the video on our YouTube channel www.youtube.com/twoweeksrunning

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Just have a listen and if you like it then come down to one of our shows. I think that the music does most of the talking.
