Your names:
C: Charley T.
J: Jonathon F.-A. or JFA.
Where are you from?
C: The Promised Land, USA
J: California.
Name of band:
C: Dirty Cakes.
J: uh...yeah, Dirty Cakes.
Who else is in your band?
C: We have the pleasure of having some really amazing musicians perform and record with us including: Jeff Nolan (I Love You, Magnificent Bastards, Scott Weiland, Screaming Trees), Melvin Brannon (Booker T and the MG's, The Toledo Show), Walter Davis (The Toledo Show, The Floor), Nico Brown, Brandon Peters, Michele Lane (The Little Debbies, Carrion, Halt)...
J: and Grace McGrade graced the cover of our first EP, so she gets honorary backstage passes to every show. Alana Downey helped produce our record so same with her. Robert Heft engineered and helped produce our record, etc.
How would you describe yourselves?
C: About 6 foot tall and bearded lovers of rock and roll.
J: We're like bigfoot or UFOs, you won't believe it till you see it, but I agree, tall, bearded, and well-endowed.
Who are your main influences musically?
C: Sex, drugs and the devil.
J: Chuck Berry, Dave Grohl, and Roger Waters...plus, everyone from Seattle.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
C: We want to have fun and make kick ass records.
J: I want every ear in the world to hear us.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
C: The highlight of our career so far is the daily love we get from our fans worldwide and the support we receive from our peers and the Grammy Academy.
J: The highlight of our career so far has been the support and incredible response we've received across the world that has propelled us to write better and better music.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
C: We don't wish to forget the past, nor shut the door on it
J: I'd like to forget so many things. What was the question again? Just kidding.
If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
C: I'd Luv To See You Nakid - because its the runaway hit and really encompasses everything we love about rock and roll. It's about drugs and fucking. It's short, catchy, heavy, danceable and memorable with an intro, two verses, two choruses, a solo and an outro all in under three minutes... WAY under.
J: Although, I'd Luv To See You Nakid is the definite crowd-pleaser, I personally feel Wicked best represents us by combining our love of hard rock, grunge, and punk into one phenomenal track.
Where can we listen to it?
Where can we find out more about your music?
C: Google "Dirty Cakes" we're everywhere!
J: In the hearts of every elderly person, on the face of every baby, off the sheen of every great record, you can find out more about our music. Tweet us: @DirtyCakesBand.
Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?
C: Way way way too much to mention here... but we will say this... We define good music as something that gives you a visceral reaction. We pride ourselves on making that our priority.
Oh, and listen to your influences influences, and listen to the whole record. Show up early to every gig, stay till the end and learn everyone's name. Nobody will ever care half as much as you do about your music, so don't be a dick and give a shit!
J: We met outside a coffee shop in Hollywood and went to the top of the Arclight movie theater parking lot on Sunset and Vine. Whilst overlooking the scope of the landscape that is Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign visibly behind us, I asked Charley, "How can we make the world hear our sound?" He replied, "It's not about who ya know. It's about who knows you and how they know you." I said, "The one thing that people who know us, definitely know, it's that we know how to rock." Ok, I didn't say that, but I wish I did.
