Where are you
from?
We’re based in London, though I’m the only one who actually lives in
London now.

The Battles Of Winter
Who else is in
your band?
Graeme Dinning (bass), Lucas Manley (guitar) and Martin Good (drums).
How would you
describe yourselves?
Someone else described us as heart racing post punk with
sonic landscapes and a quintessentially English feel. I think we’re comfortable
with that.
Who are your
main influences musically?
Our influences
range from the likes of Nick Cave and Joy Division but also post rock bands
like Godspeed You Black Emperor. I’m not saying we set out to sound like any of
these though.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
The opportunity to keep on writing and recording music knowing that
there are people (even just one or two) that genuinely get excited about
hearing what we’ve done and then coming to see us play. I know we all want to
play some festivals and I’d secretly like to play Alexandra Palace (it’s nice
and local).
What has been
the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Recently signing
to indie label Ruby Music. Just knowing that there were some other people
around who were willing to invest time and energy into promoting what we do was
both massively encouraging and exciting.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
No real disastrous moments that we would want to sweep under the carpet.
Unless I’ve already forgotten them of course. I mean we’ve played some terrible
gigs and had our fair share of ups and downs, but all of it has helped us
in one way or another.
If you had to
pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
That’s a tough one as I think the songs are varied and capture different sides
of the band. If pushed, I’d currently go with I Became A Station, which is
the last track on our debut album. It has a brooding but uplifting epic-ness to
it.

Our debut album
Standing At The Floodgates is out on 24 March and we have an album launch gig
at The Macbeth in London on 26 March. We also accept financial
contributions/donations.
