Stuart Green -

Tom Grondin -

Michael David

How would you
describe yourselves?
Crawl occupies
that grey area between full-bore, gut-stomping, heavy chugging groove rock and
soaring melodic hard rock.
Who are your
main influences musically?
Everything from
The Cure to Slayer - if it's got loud guitars, thundering bass, deadly rhythms
and melody, we listen to it.
What do you hope
to achieve in music?
When we started the band in the early 1990s,
we immediately set realistic goals for ourselves: world
domination, sales of 300million CDs worldwide, selling out five nights at
Wembley and being the first band to play on the moon. But as we've been doing
this, we came to realize that being true to who we are while respecting our
audience is really important. We want to be one of those bands that has fun,
writes great music and entertains people. We always want to be evolving as
artists while building a solid base of fans. Playing live is really important
to us.
What has been
the highlight of your career so far, and why?
We've been
really lucky to have had many highlights from writing our first songs to
playing our first shows and releasing our first recordings for people to hear.
If you ask the band we all probably have different highlights. But
collectively, it would be our first time getting video airplay and then being
nominated for a Hard Rock Video of the Year award at the MMVAs (Canadian
version of the MTV Awards). That was the turning point when it all got real.
Then came radio airplay and a second MMVA nomination and we were a
"real" band.
And what’s the
moment you want to forget?
We've had only a
few lows in our career. The most unpleasant moments are those when we are at
each other's throats. Maybe recording isn't going well, maybe the tour is not
what we had hoped for. Being in a band is like being in a relationship there
will be hard times, but hopefully they are outnumbered by the good times, the
successes and the praise.
If you had to
pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Again, I think
the band would all pick different "favourite" songs. But certainly
the track "Dry" is one that we are best known for. It represents our
diversity with it's melodic verses and heavy chorus. It was also our biggest
"hit" in terms of video and radio play. The new stuff we're writing
is a bit different - heavier.
