Robert Machado.
Where are you from?
I was born in Santa Clara, Cuba.
Moved to the USA when I was eight years old and currently living in Atlanta,
Georgia, USA.
Who else is in your band?
Only myself, I
collaborate with musician friends and other ReverbNation Artists to create my
music. I do plan on putting a band together and performing some live shows
when I have enough original material to fill up a live set.
How would you describe yourselves?
Music has always been
my passion. I am 52 years old. When I was in my teens and early 20s, I was
involved with several bands in the Atlanta area and performed at quite a
few live gigs. I gave it all up in my mid 20s because of my job and in
November of 2010 I decided to pick up my drumsticks again and go
to a studio to record some of the songs I had written back in the late 70s and
early 80s. I also enjoy travelling the world when I can and have visited quite
a few countries in my lifetime only to learn that no matter where you
live, we are all after the same thing....love, acceptance and a drive to
succeed at whatever makes us click.
Who are your main influences musically?
My main
influences come from the progressive rock sounds of the late 60s and 70s, but
I also feel I have been influenced by the movement that music has taken
throughout its history all the way to current times. I also love progressive
metal like Metallica, Korn and As I Lay Dying just to name a few.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
I would hope that
someone in the music industry sees potential in the music I have created to
reach a broader audience and is willing to give me a chance to reach mass appeal on a
global level. If that doesn't happen, I would hope my songwriting skills and
ability to compose these works are good enough for the music industry to be interested in
using my compilations for other artists. Currently I have three song lyrics that
have been published by another record label.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and
why?
The ability to move from a band environment to being a solo artist. This
drive came from the fact that the more musicians I involved in the
creation of my music, the more complicated things get including the release of
a track. One song in particular called "Lost" is what finally drove
me to buy Pro Tools and record these tracks and instruments myself where I
can. The reason for this is because that song took four months to release because
of the constant hold up of individuals including myself not being able to
get together to complete it. I blame no one for this. All of us have our
individual lives that we also have to contend with. This also does not
mean that I don't welcome a band environment to perform these songs live.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
That would be
the moment in my mid 20s when I decided to give the music up for my working
career. I went close to 30 years without creating and playing music, and
that portion of my life is what I would take back and do differently if I had
the chance.
If you could choose just one of your songs to represent
your music, what would it be and why?
That is a hard one to answer since there
are several songs I have written that I feel personify what I am
attempting to achieve with my music. One song in particular would be called
"The Feast" which was a collaboration with a great guitarist
from ReverbNation called Euro Rojas. He is the one featured on this track and
plays the lead guitar part, all other instruments were done by myself.
Where can we listen to it?
Right now, I do
not have a personal website created. I have bought the rights to www.robertmachadomusic.com,
but I have not started building the website yet, so it is currently redirecting
to my ReverbNation profile page.

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I
forgot to ask?
Yes, I am very grateful towards the fans, friends and artists I
have collaborated with throughout my life. I'm a firm believer that no one
succeeds by themselves. There are always unsung heroes that we forget to
mention. Their support and belief is what keeps my drive going. I would
also like to thank you Greg for taking interest in my music and allowing
me to be a part of your blog.
Very insightful article. It's always interesting to find out what drives/inspires an artist and what the future may hold.
