Tears Of The Dying Q&A

Your name:
My name is Jay Scary. I am the Lead guitarist and second vocalist in my band Tears of the Dying.

Where are you from?
I am originally from Steubenville Ohio but currently reside in Huntington West Virginia. It is the home of Marshall University and The Thundering Heard Football Team. They actually made a move called WE Are Marshall which payed tribute and explained the story of the Marshall University Football team that was tragically killed in a plane crash back in the 1970s. The lead roles were played by Matthew Mcconnahey and Megan Fox. They actually filmed most of the movie in Huntington WV.Anyways back to the band.lol.

Name of band:
Tears of the Dying.

Who else is in your band?
Tears of the Dying consists of myself, Joe Dogg Snider on lead vocals, Roqard Johnson on bass, Lucian on guitars, and Josh Billings on drums.

How would you describe yourselves?
If I had to describe us I would say that we like to have fun and when you get the five of us together it is a cross between def comedy jam and headbangers ball.lol. We all group up in the 80s except for Lucian. He is the youngest member. The rest of us are in our 30s so Lucian likes to crack grandpa jokes and we retaliate by treating him like a baby.lol .Lucian is in his mid 20s.

Who are your main influences musically?
I would say our main influences besides all of the 80s metal we grew up on would be Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Pantera, Bullet For My Valentine, Clutch, Prong, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, and even Metallica.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We hope we can get our music out to as many listeners as possible. Up to this point we have been promoting ourselves and releasing music by ourselves. It would be nice to have a huge record deal but if it never happens it wont stop us from making music for our fans that support us.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
I would say the highlight of our career was playing the 2009 slave to the metal tour which was hosted by fuses Mistress Juliya. We have also got to share the stage with some very big names over the years such as Soil, Flaw, Bobaflex, Dope, and several others.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
If there was one thing I could take back would be actually checking out bars or clubs before we committ to a gig. We have actually went to play and they said they had an in-house pa and it consisted of a couple five dollar microphones, some ten inch stage monitors, and a hundred watt generic 4 channel pa head. lmao. Of course that wouldn't do so we had to hire a sound man out of our own pocket at the last minute. We have also booked a bar and got there and the only thing on the jukebox was country. We were like fuuuuuck. We played anyway but needless to say nobody was dancing. lmao.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
If I could choose just one song to sum up our music it would have to be Sets my World ablaze. It is a party song but gets pretty damn heavy.

Where can we listen to it?
We are currently in the studio recording an ep titled 661 but if you want to hear a demo version of it you can go to http://www.reverbnation.com/tearsofthedying

Where can we find out more about your music?
I can give you a ton of links and sites we are on but the simplest would be to go to the above reverbnation page and look for the icon buttons. We have 14 of them on the left side of the page that will take you to any site you wanna see us on by the click of a button. Youtube, soundcloud, twitter, facebook, myspace, and even our official merchandise store. Come follow us on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/tearsofthedying

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Joe Dogg, Roqard, and I (Jay Scary) have been playing in bands together since we were in Jr. High. It is an honor to be in the band with two of my bestest friends in the whole world. I hope you like our music and look forward to seeing you someday when we dominate the world. lol. or at least part of it.
