The Amplifires Q&A

Your name:
Steve Rawlinson.

Where are you from?
The North West of England - now based in the East Midlands region of the United Kingdom.

Name of band:
The Amplifires.

Who else is in your band?
David Brunt - bass;
Sharon Clancy - Vocals;
Sandy Mitchell - Drums;
Steve Rawlinson - Guitar.

How would you describe yourselves?
Four heads, eight arms and eight legs! Musically we bring together many different influences from punk, pop, and rock - we think we are different enough to escape a label, but Indie/Alternative seems the right one to get us to the top of the UK ReverbNation chart so let's stick with that.

Who are your main influences musically?
On a personal basis I have always been influenced by bands like the Sensational Alex Harvey Band - I got into them through seeing them as a support band to Slade. Currently I like The Bellrays, Detroit 7, Royal Blood, White Stripes, Black Keys and Slaves.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To leave a legacy - music that people will like when they hear it, remember it and carry on listening to even if they don't remember my name.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Being played in rotation on a USA radio station for a couple of weeks before we played a venue in their area - it was a sell-out gig and the audience knew the lyrics better than we did and sang them. We then did a 45-minute encore and drank the place dry afterwards.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
There are so many! Sometimes the moments converge into minutes and hours but I definitely wouldn't want to be in a band van that breaks down on a Pittsburgh flyover again. Or spend the same evening in a scrap yard waiting for the repair guy.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Fat Cats on the latest album, Life's A Gamble - it starts off quietly and goes off with a bit of a bang. It's lyrics encapsulate a large part of what is wrong in and with the world; corporate greed prevailing over the needs of people and it rocks. A download link can be found on Coffee Jingle Records website - www.coffeejinglerecords.com.

Where can we listen to it?
A mash up of clips from the album can be heard here - Fat Cats is the last track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07qjpGk3PC4

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?
The Amplifires are looking to tour the UK and play UK and European festival dates in 2015 - contacts and leads most helpful, but most importantly turn up and see for yourselves
