The Royal Guard line up Hail The King

THE Royal Guard are preparing to launch their new album Hail The King.

It's the New York outfit's second release and comes after a grim few years behind the scenes after an exhilarating experience following their first album Showdown in 2009.

Singer and guitarist Todd Davidson told RealSoundsOK: "We travelled to a country called Estonia in Eastern Europe. It was so amazing how we were received. We played in front of these people for the first time ever and they immediately followed up around the country until we left."

It was when The Royal Guard returned home that they got the bad news that drummer Fred Scragg had been diagnosed with cancer. The band continued - later with a stand-in on drums - until Fred was given the all clear.

But cancer hit again with both guitarist Andy Ascolese and Todd's mothers being diagnosed with the disease - the latter's passing away.

It led the band to start donating proceeds from their digital downloads of the song Tell Me to the American Cancer Society.

Todd added: "We had to do something. Everyone in this band has been affected by this horrible disease."

They went back into the studio in 2013 and the result is Hail The King.

The band describes the songs as "powerful" and that "this is a different band than the one on Showdown".

They added: "These songs helped us heal, let us blow off steam and they give us hope. We feel that they can do the same for others."
