Curb Kicker Q&A

Your name:
Beav.

Where are you from?
Brighton/Hove, England.

Name of band:
Curb Kicker.

Who else is in your band?
Val - Drums & percussion, Manu - Guitar, Beav(me) - Bass & guest vocalist Joe.

How would you describe yourselves?
We are an organic, eestalt Entity, something where the sum of the whole is greater than its constituent parts.

Who are your main influences musically?
Each member of the band has different backgrounds of music that's moulded them. But together the genres range from lullabies, jazz, funk, prog rock to metal.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Our hope is to create music we feel is genuine, unique and interesting, which will stand the test of time, that people would revisit. I'd like to think that our music would inspire others to pick up an instrument and create something as other bands have done for me in the past.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Creating this band (Curb Kicker) from scratch because not only has it challenged me as a bass player, I never knew I could write songs to work on with other like minded individuals. Also when we bring new ideas to each other and take them on their jam journey they always seem to be better than how I envisaged them when we started.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
None, I love being part of this band and everything that comes with it.

If you could choose one of your songs as an advert for your music, what would it be and why?
All three songs from our EP 'Balance the Body Against the Elements' are very different. The track Tears Of St Lauren is more like a haunting lullaby, whereas The Old Moloko goes down the funk/prog road with strange time signatures, and New Cojones is a rock type song but with a strange edge where the guitar is playing a more rhythm section and the bass taking on the guitar role. All three make up the sound of what we are, so one song wouldn't accurately represent us.
