THERE could be good news ahead for smaller live music venues across the UK.
Government has put forward proposals to extend the Live Music Act threshold from 200 people to 500.
This means venues with a capacity up to 500 people will be able to host live music with permission from local authorities between 8am and 11pm. The same rules will apply for playing 'recorded music' in licensed premises.
Unamplified live music can take place in any location between those times.
It is thought the new rules could affect more than 13,000 venues, allowing them to start staging live music or continue to do so with less red tape.
Performances at venues with a capacity larger than 500 people or outside the proposed hours will be subject to regulation.
The proposals are part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's response to its Entertainment Deregulation consultation.
The report also covers plays, dance performances, film screenings and indoor sports.
