Thieves Q&A

Your name:
Dale Medlicott.

Where are you from?
Birmingham, England.

Name of band:
THIEVES.

Who else is in your band (if applicable)?
Nath Travell, Jake Goodman, Liam Medlicott and Georgiou Moullaris.

How would you describe yourselves?
We have been often described as a Britpop band, being likened to bands like The Twang, The Happy Mondays, The Libertines. But we feel that our music is always changing, every tune we write seems to take a step in to a different direction so we wouldn't like to label ourselves in to one category. We definitely have our influences though.

Who are your main influences musically?
Each of us has a different kind of taste in music, and whoever comes up with the riff or idea usually depicts how the song is going to sound, I think we have a 80s-90s alternative vibe about us, we draw inspiration from bands such as Pixies, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Oasis, The Charlatans, The Cure, even a little bit of hip hop.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
I think the lot of us would love to earn enough cash to be able to quit our day jobs. A US Tour, number one album and a couple of Brit awards would be nice.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
We are still a relatively new, we are nearly reaching a year as a band, but I think the highlight so far has to be our first EP and managing to get the attention of an independent record label, which put it on iTunes and Spotify. We've played in some of the best venues around Birmingham too.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
It was our very first headline gig. We smashed the gig before and I think we impressed a promoter, who decided to give us a headline slot. We we're getting free drinks all night and it went from there. We we're playing our guitar's upside down.

If you could choose one of your songs as an advert for your music, what would it be and why?
From the recorded material it would be Sunday, it seems to be one of the tunes that has gained us attention and it has also had a fair bit of airplay. It has quite an anthem feel to it and we hope to record it again in the future.

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
We are recording our next EP, which will have three new tunes. We will be playing them live with a band interview on Scratch Radio on February 14th. We also have a gig on February 15th with Liverpool favourites 'Death At Sea' at the Rainbow, Birmingham. Contact us for any tickets!
