Permanent Ability Q&A

Your name:
Brian Lanese - Founder / Frontman.

Where are you from?
Los Angeles, California, USA.

Name of band:
Permanent Ability.

Who else is in your band?
Brian Lanese - singer / producer / writer. PLAYERS: Orlando Mestre - guitars, Mario Pagliarulo - bassist, Lonnie Jones - drums

How would you describe yourselves?
Permanent Ability is an alt/funk/rock band whose sound and style are incomparable to the dime-a-dozen, clichéd acts found in Los Angeles. Backed by legendary Producer Jim Wirt and five first round ballot Grammy Nominations, Permanent Ability's name has become synonymous with the revival and new direction of the funk-rock genre.

Who are your main influences musically?
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, 311, and Incubus...I would say are our main influences. I want to also state our musical palette ranges from Zeppelin to LL Cool J.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Winning a Grammy at some point would be amazing, although being nominated in 2011 was definitely a sucker punch of flattery. Ultimately achieving recognition on a larger global scale, that’s really what every artist wants...that creative recognition. Sure we all do it cuz we love it, but I aint gonna lie, and pretend like I don't appreciate the appreciation for doing it. All artists do, and those who say they don't are full of shit.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Working with Jim Wirt (Incubus) who contributed in helping us attain those five first round ballot Grammy Nominations back in 2011 with the record Bring It On!. Our collaboration gave new life to our music and defined a fresh new funk rock sound to revive the genre.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
There really isn't one. I wouldn't want to change the ride cuz that was a part of the journey and got the band where it is now. What was meant to be came to fruition by itself and it was just a matter of ducking and dodging, and find ways around obstacles. If there were no challenges there would have been no motivation to get around the obstacles. I don't want to ever forget any part of the ride...it keeps me humble, and helps me remember where and how far I've come.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
WOW! Great question. Hmmm...on the spot I'd have to say the song "Bring It On!". It defines the perseverance of Permanent Ability and lyrically sets the tone reflecting my hunger to succeed in this shallow music industry; sending a message that whatever gets thrown at me, I won't be pushed around cuz I'm up for the challenge. Luckily, success has been good to us so far.

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Our NEW full-length album titled "Love You to Death" is due out later this year, and it features bassist Mario Pagliarulo of Serj Tankian's band The F.C.C. It's the highly anticipated follow up to 2010's Bring It On! and in my opinion our BEST album to date.
