Star Tiger Q&A

Your name:
Craig Miller.

Where are you from?
Lancaster, Lancashire, England.

Name of band:
Star Tiger.

Who else is in your band?
Mike Denton on the drums, and Sharon Miller on bass. And I play guitar and sing. Sort of.

How would you describe yourselves?
We're an experimental metal band. Our songs our typically quite long, and can go from loud bursts of noise, to quiet, almost ambient sections.

Who are your main influences musically?
All sorts of stuff. I'd say things like Isis, Neurosis, Opeth and Mastodon were early influences on the songs, and I just seem to be influenced by more and more varied music as we carry on writing. These days it can be anything from classical music, to post-rock, to black metal. Steve Hackett from Genesis and Adam Jones from Tool were also big influences on how I choose to play guitar. Lyrically, we tend to write about mythical creatures rather than everyday life.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To make music that we're happy with, to keep pushing ourselves to go in different directions and come up with different ideas, and to have the opportunity to play live and have people listen to us.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Our most recent gig, I think. It was at the ZombieVille event in Morecambe. Just every aspect, right down to seeing our name on the t-shirt, was a very surreal experience.

And what's the moment you want to forget?
I don't think we've had any really bad moments. Yet, anyway. We've had minor problems and technical issues, but we've just managed to handle it.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I think, at the moment, it would probably be 'The Incident'. It's about seven minutes long, and there's plenty of light and dark in there, so I think it's quite a good introduction to us.

Where can we listen to it?
It's one of the songs on our ReverbNation page: http://www.reverbnation.com/startiger

Where can we find out more about your music?
On the ReverbNation page, or any of the following:

Anything else you'd like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Just that we really appreciate any sort of attention that our music gets. We just write this stuff because we like it, and we enjoy playing it, so for other people to come back and tell us how much they like it is an amazing feeling. So to everyone who's given us a listen, thanks. Also that we're currently getting a bunch of songs together ready to record, so there will be more music from us coming your way soon.
