Who is in your band?

We are a so called classic power trio.

Christian Prehsler: Vocals, Guitar

Florian Frankl: Bass

Markus Haschny: Drums

When we go for an acoustic gig we might fill in other roles - even a banjo was spotted once.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?

We are a rock band, soaked in 90's grunge with a little of dirty old men blues on top of it. Dark but catchy and a little too old to die young…

Who are your main influences musically?

Oh, we like all kinds of stuff (as long as it's played by real musicians). Our tastes in music go in the same direction but differ in the details - which is a great because it offers us a variety of ideas to play with.

Markus' drumming is mainly inspired by hard punchers such as Dave Grohl (Nirvana) and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Flo is into such things as Tom Waits and some weird, drunken pirate songs, and Chris has an affection to badly recorded noise rock.

  

What do you hope to achieve in music?

We hope to play exciting places and venues in front of a crowd that digs our music. (Unlimited supplies of booze and women wouldn't hurt either ;-) .)

  

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

Doing this Q&A for your blog, of course!

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

If we wanted to forget a moment we probably would. Naturally we forget more than we can remember, so we are working hard on NOT forgetting things. If there is a moment we don't like, we just stop trying to remember it all the time aaand it's gone. What was the question again?

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

For us it's impossible to break that down to just one song. We think our EP "The Final Twitch" represents our music best. A wide spectrum from laid back jazzy tunes to screaming guitars and buzzing drums.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
A three-month tour where we play every second night in front of at least 50 people.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Strangers who wanna buy a hackmonocut album after a live show. After weeks or months
alone in the dark writing songs on my own without getting any feedback from outside, new fans telling you they loved your music is one of the coolest things in music.   

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
None.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
virgin suicide bomber. It has everything in it, the dark soul of our music, melancholy, irony, love, death and social criticism.

New video from Thirteen Days

POP-punks Thirteen Days have released a video for Across The Universe.

The Austria natives have just returned from Oakland, California, having finished recording and mixing their forthcoming Goodbye To Yesterday album at Green Day's JingleTown Studios.

The band have previously played alongside the likes of Blink 182, NOFX and All Time Low and are now preparing for a tour of UK and Europe in support of the album.

The UK leg of the tour begins in Salisbury on October 16th with dates in Winchester, Manchester, London, Southampton, Winsford, Bournemouth and Gloucester to follow.

Hello my name is Mandi Alf.

Where are you from?

I am from Kufstein Tyrol, Austria. Kufstein Tyrol is a small district of Austria, heart of the alps, situated between Germany in the North and Italy to the south.

Name of band:

ALFORNA and what does the band name mean: ALF is the family name from Gernot (Drums) and Mandi (Guit), O standing as symbol for the sun and RNA is the shortcut for Ribonucleicid acid. It`s a ubiquitous family of large biological molecules that perform multiple vital roles in the coding, decoding, regulation, and expression of genes.

Who else is in your band?

Andi Mayr- Guitar, Daniel Perthaler - Vocals, Christof Maurer- Guitar, Martin "Fize"Estermann - Bass, Gernot Alf- Drums.

How would you describe yourselves?

So I would describe myself as a normal people being in the best age. I love to make music and love the nature and try to be always friendly as well. Love my family, because without her approval, I can't could pursue my music enthusiasm .

Who are your main influences musically?

Oh these are very many influences, Sepultura, Soulfly, Iron Maiden, Machine Head, Testament, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Helloween, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, Pearl Jam...But all in all we are trying to be ourselves and do not want copy anyone .

What do you hope to achieve in music?

We hope that we will play some gigs outside of Tyrol and Austria. We try to produce good music, and will practice a lot and play a lot of shows!

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

So we make really long music. But the final line-up as it now exists is only since 2009. The biggest highlight was recording our first album titled "Awake", which we took in December 2013 on the market. After countless new beginnings within the band, it was finally time to present our music outside of the rehearsal room. But that would be a longer story ;-) A highlight will be on May 30 in the Kulturfabrick Kufstein to make the support for Sepultura - our idols ;-)

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

All this new beginnings in the band, and always starting from point 0. But this is no longer the case. Now we make "nails with heads"

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

"Schau viere" - track number four on our album in Tyrolian dialect. Because this is the way we are going. Don`t look back, look forward and never give up!!

Erika Lloyd, previously known as Little Grey Girlfriend.

Where are you from?
I was born in Virgina USA, but because I come from a military family I have also lived in Heidelberg and Geoppingen Germany, Kansas, and North Carolina, and studied in Indiana and Vienna, Austria.  I currently live in Brooklyn, NY.

How would you describe yourself?
Experimental pop.

Who are your main influences musically?

Kate Bush, Jane Siberry, David Bowie, Goldfrapp, Cocteau Twins, Depeche Mode, and Joni Mitchell.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Communication in a deeply emotional and direct way: illuminating beauty, while telling of experiences and observations.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

Being in the audience at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for Chanticleer's performance of a choral arrangement of my song "Cells Planets." It felt like a fantastic dream.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

There are quite a few small moments I wish I didn't have to deal with on such a regular basis: mainly dealing with people who make a living trying to take advantage of eager musicians like booking agents who don't care about music, people with press relations or licensing scams, club owners, etc.

"Time Pops Bubbles" because it is dark, but upbeat.

I am currently transitioning into performing and recording as Erika Lloyd rather than Little Grey Girlfriend. I will be performing a few solo shows this spring, just vocals and piano, and then will add band members back in and record a new album. Senopia.

Where are you from? 

London, England.

Who is in your band? 

There's Pia (vocals), Andrew (bass/synths/guitars/backing vocals), Rich (guitar) and David (drums). We have members from England, Austria and our singer's a Swedish-speaking Finn. 

How would you describe yourselves? 

We're a moody electro-rocking, glitch-loving, guitar-playing female-fronted band

Who are your main influences musically? 

Nine Inch Nails, Bjork, Arcade Fire, Smashing Pumpkins, Massive Attack, Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead, and Nirvana are the foundations. There's also been a lot of Grimes, Purity Ring, Chvrches and Jon Hopkins played at Senopia Towers lately.

What do you hope to achieve in music? 

World domination would be fun, but ultimately time consuming. But while we have no pretentions on breaking into charts globally or selling out arenas, this whole process of writing the best songs we can and getting them out to people on our own terms and seeing that other people actually like it too is a great, rewarding thing to do and we want to see how far we can take that. If that takes us to new, exciting places, so be it.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? 

Recording and releasing our debut album, Modern Squalor. It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears and we're delighted to see it completed. It was out on February 24th.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

We've not had too many humiliations. The band have all managed to avoid any 'trousers falling down on stage' incidents. Though at our first ever gig, the power failed at the venue two hours before we were due on stage, so instead of a soundcheck, we had to spend the time diverting people to a new venue and figuring out how we weren't going to fall off the tiny stage provided during the show. Nerves shredded. The gig worked out pretty well in the end though.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Modern Squalor, the title track and first single from the album - I guess it's our mission statement, sonically. Combining rock and a bit of thrashing about on the drums, all set around synths and drum machines - and a good hooky chorus. It's not in our nature, or what interests us, to just stick to one genre.

Burning Chase Q&A

Stefan Strasser - guitar, vocals.

Where are you from?

We’re all from in and around Vienna, Austria.

Name of band:

Burning Chase.

Who else is in your band?

Tom Goethe - also guitar and vocals. We share rhythm and lead parts for guitar as well as main and backing vocals more or less equally.

We’re currently transitioning between bassists, because Johana, our last one, will move back to Prague, where she’s from, to study.

How would you describe yourselves?

Alternative rock with funk, pop, heavy influences. It’s hard to pin it down, because it seems we’re constantly changing.

Who are your main influences musically?

Personally, Foo Fighters, King’s X, Dream Theater, Nuno Bettencourt, AC/DC … I really love rock music that kicks ass, but I like lots of different styles, from Beethoven over Stevie Wonder to Opeth. And I know Sigi, our drummer, also loves all kinds of rock music, Dave Matthews Band, Yes, also Foo Fighters, and is very much into everything funky and groovy, including fusion and jazz funk. Tom has a thing for John Mayer, but he also has a very diverse taste, as far as I know.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Have fun! Write songs that people enjoy. Tom is the only professional musician in our group, but he makes his money with other projects and mainly with working as a sound engineer. Everybody else has a (more or less "normal") daytime job, which means we have to set realistic goals for our band. Playing some live shows, getting a song in the radio, reaching people and making them dance and enjoy themselves are what would make us feel accomplished.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

Personally, my highlights are always great live shows where the crowd enjoys itself. I remember one particular one I had with my band in Japan (I used to live there for a couple of years) when we rocked a small dive bar that was absolutely packed. That was awesome! Or the one gig with another band where we played at the inauguration party of a Harley Davidson custom shop. That was a highlight, because I made more money with music that night than ever before or after, haha.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

I’ve witnessed it a couple of times that a clash of egos destroyed or almost destroyed a band. That’s probably the worst thing for me in this world of making music / being in a band.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Ooohhh… Impossible! We have only released two songs so fat that I could point to. I would probably pick Lie because I wrote it. But we have so many other great and different songs. It’s like asking a parent to pick their favorite child!

Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?

Well, some people ask us if we’re a political band. That’s because the two songs we have released so far are about the encroaching surveillance state (Step by Step) and about constantly being lied to by politicians and authority figures (Lie). Also, our band name is based about a series of paintings called Burning Chase, which show branches of Chase banks going up in flames. So, the question is justified. But, in fact, I’d say 90% of our songs are about a different subject matter. Personally, I am a rather politically minded individual with a skeptical, cynical and critical view of the world, so that’s bound to show up in some of the lyrics now and then. Most of our lyrics are about love, personal relations and stuff like that though.
