Me, myself and I. Or maybe should I say my guitar is the singer of the Myth Guitar project? 

How would you describe yourselves and your music?

I write instrumental music. I refer to my tracks as my babies so I guess they sound a lot like me: dynamic, wild, feminine, indie and rock ’n’ roll. 

Who are your main influences musically?

Bob Dylan, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Cadaveria just to mention some artists. 

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Making people smile and dance is all what I wish. 

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

Being able to record my album « Tap’ This ! » at home. The main challenge was to make it a 100 per cent tapping album, exploring different moods with one guitar technique only. I also recorded the drums and the bass myself. 

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

One day as I was changing the strings on my electric guitar, I hurt my palm with one of them. The pain made me scream and I woke the cat up. She was mad at me for a few hours because of that… 

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

I would say my newly released single « Graffiti Town ». It is a colourful track, quite catchy and cheerful. I believe it represents the album « Tap’ This! » well.

The Salvador Darlings Q&A

Your name: 

Carine Fierobe (singer).

Where are you from? 

Paris originally, living in London, UK.

Name of band: 

The Salvador Darlings.

Who else is in your band? 

Bryan Borcherds.

How would you describe yourselves and your music? 

We are passionate about music so our music is the expression of our passion, like our image, simple but true. Bryan is the composer of The Salvador Darlings and he's obsessed by musical equipment and all the technical parts. Personally I'm so bad at it! It's better if I don't touch this part, but I do play guitar and write songs. My role in The Salvador Darlings is to create vocal melodies and build lyrics when I'm inspired.

Who are your main influences musically? 

Anything that moves us, it could be old school hip hop or jazz or classical, if it has the right feeling then that’s what we like. When writing our own music it usually starts with a drum beat or synth line, or a vocal melody, and if we find ourselves nodding our heads to the beat then we keep on going with the song. So to answer your question it’s not a style or band that influences us, it’s the groove and feeling.

We are also very influenced by the city we live in, London. There’s so much magic and mystery, the history, people, and weather influences us. The recording isn’t just done in a studio, it’s recorded out and about in London. For each song we do outdoor recording to capture the magic of London, for example with our single Show World we did additional vocal recording in Trafalgar Square on the coldest night of the year. In the background you can hear the fountains, buses rumbling by, and a security guard shouting at us asking us to leave. It’s quite original to do this kind of exciting things!

What do you hope to achieve in music? 

I just hope to continue to enjoying music with my buddy and playing a lot of gigs everywhere in London first and if it's possible going on the road to spread our music to everyone who wants to listen. Of course I hope that people will enjoy our songs and us as people. Like I said earlier, we are simple and we will stay like that, we want to be the close to our fans and share our story and music with them. Our music is just a reflection of who we are so hopefully people can relate to this.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? 

Every time we get to the studio. It’s so much fun, to either come in with a song idea or create a new song idea. 

And what’s the moment you want to forget? 

Honestly for the moment I have nothing to forget with The Salvador Darlings but I remember when I was a little child, I had participate in a little song contest in my home town in France. It was the first time I was singing in front of a lot of people on a stage, I was so stressed and my mouth was very, very dry. During the song I couldn't control my mouth and I coughed to clear my voice. It was terrible because I just wanted to be perfect and I wasn't.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why? 

Show World because it's our first song and "the meet up song" with Bryan, a very good one to introduce The Salvador Darlings. It denounces the importance of the image today and this reality based in fiction representations and relationships.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
For sure a track from Acte VI which is not out now... It will be in few month (March 2015 I hope) cause this track is one of those who gave me the most difficulties to create and finally it combines quite a lot of my influences.
There' s also in Acte IV the tracks V-11 cause it mixed electronic with classical music that was interesting to explore that way.

Pauline Andrès.

Where are you from? 

France. Technically.

Who else is in your band?

Musicians have been coming and going. But the new record wouldn't have been possible without Jack Davis, who played on & produced it. I was also very blessed to still have our drummer Fran around for most of the recording - he left the country since then - an absolute sweetheart, great friend and musician.

How would you describe yourself? 

I'm a songwriter. I litterally just hold the pen as the words come in. Most of it is storytelling, some of it is true. The line is sometimes thin and blurry.

Who are your main influences musically? 

If I made a list I would regret it, someone would always be missing. But it's as varied as it gets ranging from Merle Haggard to PJ Harvey, Eels, Bruce Springsteen, Hank Williams, Jacques Brel, Oxmo Puccino or traditional Hungarian music. And Lucinda Williams. I have the greatest respect for her work.

What do you hope to achieve in music? 

Continue making it. 

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? 

Releasing the debut album, out October 14th. I thought I'd die or end up in jail while we were making it. Everything around me during this period was just chaotic. Many times I thought we'd never see the end of it. But now that it's done, I'm proud of it.

And what’s the moment you want to forget? 

Nothing. As corny as it sounds... bad moments usually make good songs. 

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why? 

That's tough. To be honest, it would be one I haven't released yet - album two is being prepared. But as close as it gets would be All Them Ghosts, the title track of my upcoming record. The sound is rich and translates a lot of my influences (the banjo for folk/country, the accordion for my European roots). It's dark as hell but there is hope... and it's a story. A true story.

Who else is in your band? 

I work in collaboration with DJs from all over the world, mostly Italy, Spain, Mexico, France and Argentina (the last ones are with E Duque (Mexico), Brian Varak ( Argentina), Joel Reichert (Argentina), Mario Piu (Italy), Peter Kharma (Italy), Fidel DJ (Spain) and Alex Andre (Spain). 

How would you describe yourself?

I am a free spirit:) music is a part of my life:) and writing too:) I try to express myself with the lyrics :) and I try to put in motto the carpe diem teory:)

Who are your main influences musically?

For the style I am doing now, I have no influence at all. It's an unique and different style with my own ideas and lyrics. I write a song, find a melody and then put the music on with DJs, so it's everything creative and new, and sometimes I take a lyric that is already exciting and make a new version of it,but the artists I like myself are Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, George Michael, Elton John, Ella Fidzgerald, Nina Simone, Bon Jovi, any rebels and wild people like me:)

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Nothing special:) just keeping doing what I'm doing and liking what I am doing :)

Change Your Philosophy, just because people are too complicated:) many time they make a lot of fuss for nothing, they always try to find problems when there is nothing at all, and want to look for fights and problems when they can just forget and forgive when the offence isn't big. People has to change the way of seeing things, and change their negative energies with positive energies... like the 'peace and love' style of the 70s:)

Kepler Gold unleashes lead track from new album

HIP hop artist Kepler Gold has unveiled the video for Knights Of The Zodiac, the lead single from his new album PlayRoom.

Paris-born, UK-based Kepler wrote and produced the track himself and says it is inspired by Ganz and Kanye West.

Where are you from? 
I live in France,  the Loire Valley county, a peaceful place.  I came back here in 2008 after living several years in Paris.

Minsoo Chemistry.

Who else is in your band?
This is a solo project. I am primarily a guitarist but I play other instruments, keyboards for example. Sometimes I collaborate with other musicians, including tracks drums.

How would you describe yourself? 
This first project is primarily conceptual and minimalist electro/alternative/abstract.

Who are your main influences musically? 
I listen and enjoy hundreds of indie and alternative artists..not only electro. But if I had to name just two or three in connection with the music that I present today, I would say, Four Tet, DJ Shadow, M83.. 

More recently I listened again to the artists trip hop scene.

What do you hope to achieve in music? 
Nothing but my pleasure and I hope to please those who listen.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? 
I cannot say much for personal reasons, I went through a difficult period, I hope the best for the future.

Emilie Aubert and Nixon Vandel.

Where are you from? 

Emilie is originally from France and Nixon from California. We are based in San Francisco but we’re moving to Paris, France, in a few months.

Who else is in your band? 

Only us two.

How would you describe yourselves? 

We are an indie electronic duo. Emilie, a music major and multi-instrumentalist, is in charge of the live instruments and the arrangements, while Nixon, influenced by years of DJing, takes care of the mixing and lighting. We like to mix electronic music with real live instruments. 

Who are your main influences musically? 

We have really diverse influences, that ranges from indie rock, electronic music, hip-hop, and even classical music. Our music is deeply influenced by all these genres.

What do you hope to achieve in music? 

We would like to be able to play shows regularly while keeping on getting new music out and enjoying ourselves. However, the most important thing we would like to achieve is move people with our music. Nothing is better than having someone moved by our music. 

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? 

Releasing our first EP. We spent a lot of time trying to define our sound and write songs that sound like a mix of both of us. It was the first songs that represents us and we are really proud of that. 

And what’s the moment you want to forget? 

Honestly there is none. Everything about our band has been a great experience so far.

It would probably be Vindication. We like to play on the contrast between our male and female voices and between the real live instruments (like the guitar) and electronic sounds.

Where are you from?
Paris, France, but now I live in Brussels, Belgium.

How would you describe yourselves?

I'm a French electronic composer and musician. Passionate by refined and pure clean sounds, simple and efficient melodies, I perpetuate an electronic music tradition from electronic pioneers... I'm maybe part of the new French "retro futuristic" movement!

Who are your main influences musically?

Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Jarre, Vangelis, 80's Synthpop and New french scene : Kavinsky, Daft Punk, Arnaud Rebotini and Air...

What do you hope to achieve in music?

I hope to realize many albums in different styles (some more experimental, some more ambient and some more electro) and hopefully having them released on a good label to take my music on a higher level and reach more people in the world.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

I just started my career with Analog 80, I didn't have real highlight for the moment...But I got some very nice feedbacks from people who follow me via internet and sometimes by eminent artists. Lately, I've been chosen for a South American electro tribute compilation and one for German Kraftwerk related compilation. It's very encouraging for me to be recognized in so little time.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

When I sold a synth to make room...

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Microgravity because it was composed very quickly and directly on my different synths. I like this spontaneity and immediacy when I create a track. It was like a moment of grace. It's also for me a perfect mix between minimal, analog sounds and powerful rhythm I like to use.

A Big Slap from As Animals

FRENCH duo As Animals have unveiled a new track from their forthcoming eponymous album due to be released on March 3rd.

Big Slap is described as a "frenetic, clap-happy jam" and follows up on the recent Star Slinger remix of I See Ghost (Ghost Gunfighters).

The pair - Zara and Fred, who met in Paris in 2011 - have seen their album reach number 11 in the French iTunes chart and recently played their first UK show in London, and will appear at the Great Escape festival in the summer.

How would you describe yourselves?

Sonic Winter is a French-Brazilian band from Glasgow UK, originally created by two friends sharing their different musical universes.
French Guitarist Jean-Marc Millière and Brazilian Keyboardist Francis Girola met in Glasgow UK and became friends there.
Sonic Winter work as a two-piece band. We like to explore as many ideas of music as possible, Sonic Winter is a massive laboratoire where all sound experiences are welcome. We have plenty of friends from different countries "Guest Members" who play on our music, they bring their ideas, sometimes we just send an instrumental backing track and they put their musical world on it. Sometimes the songs are written and already recorded, they just need to play the missing instrumental parts that we want, mainly it's always bass and drums we need, sometimes new vocals.
  

Who are your main influences musically?

Uriah Heep, Rush, King Crimson, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Van der graaf generator, Goldfrapp, John Lee Hooker, AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Air.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

We want Sonic Winter to become an international community with musicians contributing from every continent and share all kind of music background with them to send Sonic Winter on new sonic adventures.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

So far as the band is only over one year old the highlight has been to be signed by the French record company KIWI MUSIC a new label dedicated to pop/rock music for our debut album "Magical Silver Bullets and Hell Birdsongs". They contacted us on internet via Facebook.
The release of the CD is on the way. Another highlight was the great quantity of Sonic Winter songs played on radios (USA, UK, France etc...) directly from the start as soon as they were sent to radio djs, they really helped us to promote our music.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

For now there is not really a moment we would like to forget apart from the fact that at the start of the band when looking for musicians many of them never showed up for rehearsals, so it is why we decided to do everything as a two-piece band and asked our musicians friends instead to help us by playing their part on our music as guests.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

It would be the track "Miles Away" because it was the first I ever wrote for Sonic Winter and you can hear all our influences, Blues type of lyrics, Heavy Black Sabbath riffs, keyboard in between the Doors, King Krimson, E.L.O, drums groovy very 70's, bass influences like Gary Thain (Uriah Heep), soaring guitar solo.

Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?

We would love to do live gigs, loads of listeners or fans ask us to, but to do justice to the type of music we play we would need that clubs and promoters up their game and put their money where their mouth is by not asking bands to provide impossible numbers of ticket sales before getting paid or even to pay to be on the bill. Bands invest already a lot of their time and own money onto rehearsals, recordings, equipment and nearly all of them are struggling to carry on to play the music they love.
