How would you describe yourselves?

We are a group of like-minded musicians who have formed Lucks Lane to collaborate on the work of songwriter Pete Moore. We all have a variety of different influences, which works really well within the band. We are just a bunch of guys who love making new music.

Who are your main influences musically?

We have so many influences, ranging from Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, Bon Jovi to Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica and everything in between. Each member brings their own influences to the band, which allows us to jump between genres. We are a rock band but we love to surprise people with a ballad or acoustic track every so often.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

We just want to reach as many people as we can and have as much fun as possible along the way. We have no delusions of grandeur and are just enjoying ourselves. If our music has an impact on someone then we have achieved our goals, success is not all about making money, making good music is the main aim.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

It’s probably the release of our debut album ‘A New Someone’ in Oct 2012. We had the idea to release an album just for fun and to have a body of work that we could be proud of. Lucks Lane was originally only supposed to be a one-off album project. Once we released it, the feedback and the amount of radio play that every track on the album received worldwide blew us away. We were not expecting that at all. An amazing feeling and definitely a highlight.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

To be honest, we have been incredibly lucky and have received awesome support from everyone so far. Every band goes through tough times, but we are friends first and I think that has been the key to avoiding major issues. There are no egos in the band and everyone brings fresh ideas into every session. If it’s not working we change it. I guess the moment we want to forget is still in the future, I’m sure it will happen soon enough though lol!

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

The song that probably represents us best is ‘Take Me To The Edge’ which was on our debut album. It was chosen to be on a compilation album of indie artists, which was a huge compliment for us. It was one of the first songs we recorded and we still love playing it.

Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?

We are nearly finished recording our second album ‘The Story Of Our Lives’ which we hope to release in May 2014. After which we will start a UK tour, (dates to be confirmed). Also, a massive thanks for giving us the opportunity to be part of your Q&A. We really appreciate it!

Where are you from? 

Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.

Southern Inc.

Who else is in your band? 

Kurt Russelle (Guitar/Vocals), Kyle Harding (Bass) and Blair Ellis (Drums).

How would you describe yourselves? 

Four passionate individuals with varying musical interests who seek solace in heavy grooving metal. We work hard/play hard and try to love those around us.

Who are your main influences musically? 

I personally hate this question you always leave things/people out. The band have many greats as mutual influences. Pantera came to our town in the early 90's with Skid Row and I know that sound was a game changer for me. Anything with a metal undertone influences our songs; that's nice thing about music, a sea of endless influences.

What do you hope to achieve in music? 
Right now we are focusing on solid recordings and shows that we would want to listen to.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? 
By far teaming with Bonegrinder Records (www.bonegrinderrecords.net) to record our first EP Crushing All and the hopefully the good and exciting things that come from doing the work.

And what’s the moment you want to forget? 
The ice cold jam shack! Lol. We are big time with heat now.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why? 
Probably At Ya. It's just a song of a lot of "firsts" in relation to the recording process and our set list. It also contains the lyric "No pride No glory my friend" which speaks volumes about us I think.

Phoenix Calling rope in Deaf Havana on debut

ROCKERS Phoenix Calling have released their debut single Bring The Roof Down, which boasts backing vocals from Deaf Havana.

The bands bumped into one another late last year at Regal House Studios, where Phoenix Calling were recording their debut EP.

Drummer Ben Greenwood told RealSoundsOK: "They were using the same studio as rehearsal rooms and we were working with producer Lee Batiuk, who worked on their special edition of Fools & Worthless Liars. We were hanging out and they ended up singing the gang backing vocals on the single with us!”

The band from Peterborough, UK, consists of Steven Chapman, Dominic Greenwood, Martyn Hilliam, Benedict Greenwood and Jason Howard.

A woozy blend of melodic indie and electronica.

Who are your main influences musically?

Neil Young, Dylan, Primal Scream, the Beta Band, Love, Beck, Jefferson Airplane, Chemical Brothers, The Beatles, Blur.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

To grow as writers and players, and to earn the respect of our contemporaries.  

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

The recording of our demo. Such a positive and creative experience.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

Nothing. It all counts for something. 

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Trip. It has solid dance/electronic influence, great melody and a great eastern groove.

From The Sticks Q&A

Your name:
My name is Rick Butcher.

Where are you from?
I am from the fenland outskirts of a small city called Peterborough in Cambridge. In a small village called Holme, which in fact hardly has roads worth the name and hardly any street lights as well as one shop.. no actually that just closed down so no shops.. and an internet that may as well be powered by hamsters running in a wheel. But what you lack in comforts you gain in the view. It's quite nice walking the wolf at night and actually using the stars as your street lights.

Band name:

The band is called From The Sticks and is clearly quite suited.

Who is in your band?

We're a four piece consisting of myself as vocalist, Tom Ellingworth Guitar, Nick Thompson-bel Bass and Adam Mansfield Drums. We're simply four strangers, three of whom met at an open mic night at a local pub The Duck And Drake and the fourth Nick who we found in the gutter outside somewhere and handed a Bass guitar.. luckily he picked it up very quickly.
We all jelled straight away, yet we didn't really aim for a genre and when we had played a good couple of shows had been classed as an "indie" group by many people. But truthfully we're just winging it and we will never see a band and say let's be like them its just not our style.

How would you describe yourselves?To be honest i could only describe ourselves as four very strange guy's who quickly have grown into brothers. Our music varies from serious topics to not so serious topics that have humour but every song always has an underline message that we rather let people figure out for themselves. If they get it then great and if they don't it doesn't really matter as long as they enjoy it and can tap their feet and hopefully forget the world for a second.

Who are your influences musically?

Our musical influences are always the toughest question to answer. We literally like everything from classical right down to prog-rock. I'd say Tom brings a good jazz feel to things, Nick brings the funk with his pops and slaps, Adam gives a good almost punky beat with a dancey indie twist and well myself I guess my writing style is what gives it all that root indie feel too it, but I sing from the soul even when it may not be classed as 'singing' .

What do you hope to achieve in music?The world. No but seriously, to simply make 40 quid a night and be able to just about survive doing this thing we already live and breath and just know that there's even 50 people out there who get and love what we're doing just as much as we do. Because at the end of the day yeah we write this stuff for ourselves but its for the people who want to listen. We'd be nothing without them. 

What's been the highlight of your career so far?

We played the Willow Fest in our home town and got to headline on the Friday night to thousands of people, most of them probably to drunk to remember our names the next day, but we didn't mind being their one night stands, we'll still plan to play it again this year.

And what's the moment you want to forget?

Urm we had a gig recently for charity and I didn't really think about what I was saying afterwards as I said 'don't forget to hand your money to the guy with the pot' - that was a pretty epic fail.

If you could choose one song to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Hard to say. We really try to switch it up with each song but not so much people think they're listening to a different band. But I guess DMT has become a little bit of a love child for us so we'll go with that considering the recent success with the DIY video for it which I spent six months making out of bits of tissue paper card straw and whatever I could find!

Shake Hands Eric Q&A

Your name:  

Richard Young.

Where are you from?  

Grew up in Lincolnshire, now based out of Peterborough, UK.

Name of band:

Shake Hands Eric. 

Who else is in your band?  

Mark plays bass, Ken on guitar, Andy is our man on the piano, and a drummer called Les. I sing and play my acoustic.  

How would you describe yourselves?  

Simple really since you ask...we are the legitimate heirs of a pop folk rock dynasty, sweeping up a plethora of musical genres into a magnificent dust bowl of nearly-new genius.  

Who are your main influences musically? 

The Beatles, and especially John Lennon, got me started, so I always listen for melody and confessions. At various points in my life I have been besotted by Talking Heads, The Smiths, Dexy's, The Specials, Fashion, Neil Young, Springsteen and Dylan. Of course, a hell of a lot of others have made their way into my head, joined the mash and help when I write songs.       

What do you hope to achieve in music? 

To move people in some way with a song, or to write something that lasts and for people to adore. To get a song into a movie or one of those US shows. To play one or two rather large festivals and to make enough to balance the books one day. So, not that ambitious really.... 

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why? 

We've been lucky to have had some great producers and musicians add to our stuff, especially our second album where we worked with Paul Milner (Robert Palmer, Rush, Sting, Keith Richards) and Phil Tyreman (Snow Patrol, Belle and Sebastian). We have played a few good gigs too and done a fair bit of live radio. I am also pretty pleased to have assembled a bunch of guys who are very hot players to work with and mates - people underestimate how hard doing that can be. 

And what’s the moment you want to forget? 

Being a tad pissed and whilst talking backstage with a Led Zep tribute artist, annoying John Paul Jones by mocking his wig.  

If you could choose one of your songs as an advert for your music, what would it be and why? 

Lamplight - a song about a dreamer who mistakes a street appliance for a celestial body and makes a wish upon it. An easy mistake.
