It’s just the two of us.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
Exactly like our short biography decribes us: Follow the Sea is a noise pop duo from Stockholm, Sweden. Drawing inspiration from the shoegaze scene the duo makes pop songs with elements of fuzzy droning and Scandinavian melancholy.

Who are your main influences musically?
The shoegaze cliché ones for start I guess, My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and the Mary Chain, Slowdive and Lush but also new shoegaze acts like A Place to Bury Strangers, No Joy and Ringo Deathstarr. Blood Red Shoes has also been a big influence, reasons why we choose to be a duo – they make great music as a two piece, so we try that two piece style but in a more shoegaze-way.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
First, make a vinyl - it’s been a personal achievement for both of us since before we started this band. And the vinyl will happen in 2016, thanks to Häxrummet Records. Second is touring, as much as we can, as often as we can. We really like all elements of underground touring: seeing and playing new places, meeting new people, sleeping on their living room floors, driving five hours a day and listening to Nirvana’s Incesticide on repeat.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
The first show we had, we opened for GUM and Ringo Deathstarr. It was a really nice evening, great bands and great people, the best club in Stockholm (Debaser Slussen R.I.P) just turned all shoegaze for one night – even the DJ was playing MVB all night.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Driving from Berlin to Stockholm in a van with a broken heater during winter time.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
The latest one written, the one that isn’t ready yet.. the newest song is always the more interesting than the second newest one and old ones. But if we can’t choose that one it will be My Horse Friend from the first EP. It’s been two years since we released it and we still aren’t tired of it even though we have played on every single show since. It’s a simple four (almost three) chord song drained in fuzz and reverb, that’s a great representation of our music.

Randy Wild.

Where are you from?
The lovely Sweden! Randy from the south of Sweden and Raimond from the far north.

The Red Fuze.

Who else is in your band? 
Randy Wild (vocals) and Raimond Raio Geezer (guitar), our alter egos and spirits.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?

Well Randy is the eccentric one and Raimond the calm one. We are our opposites. Like ying and yang, and that is a good thing. We are both very productive and hard working dudes. We really believe in hard work and never giving up will pay off in the long run. There’s no shortcuts. 

Randy - the spirit, the electric mountain, the wild child.

Raimond - the rock, the foundation, the solid one.

We complete each other and our differences makes our unique sound. We are different but still our passion, fire and mindset towards our goal in music is very much the same.

Who are your main influences musically?

We definitely have a lot of inspiration from The Doors, The Black Keys and White StripesBut it can very likely be a really good vibe in a hip hop beat by Eminem, Axl Rose screaming his lungs out, a funky old Motown song vibrating or Frankie singing us to the moon that gives us a feeling that we work from. Music is so much and influences is totally different from every time we write a song. We do whatever we want, when we want it and however we want to do it, we are very proud to be the big machine and power in our band. We are the only one in charge and we love that. 

What do you hope to achieve in music?

To me, Randy, it’s always been about to deliver a feeling to people, to unite and give power to the people. I just want to give something in our music, whatever that is, cause it’s different to everyone that listens, it brings different emotions. And to give people a good time, in whatever way possible would be such an amazing gift. 

On whatever venue, big arenas and festivals or a dirty little club, doesn’t matter. I want to feel the feeling of thousands of people singing with me. Ooouf that energy would be so pure and big, just imagine it.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
It’s actually right now! People are getting in touch with us, magazines, radio stations, podcast’s etc! That if f’kin amazing!!! We’ve been working so many years with music and when we first got to know each other and started The Red Fuze last year, we’ve just been working so hard and look now. It pays off! So that is more than amazing, let’s keep this train rollin’.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Forget? Nothing, the negative, we want to learn from. Negative isn’t always negative in the big picture.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Dance Now! Listen to that song, close your eyes, imagine driving a black Mustang down a highway with the wind in your hair and sun in your eyes, the sun is going down on that desert highway, and you’re stoppin’ at a remote place, that desert, and there’s thousands of dancing, loving people, sharing the energy of rock n’ roll! It’s a feel-good vibe to that song but at the same time something sexy and seriousness to it that combined our explosive sound. That song live on a big fesitval stage would make the ground rumble! Ladies screaming and dudes throwing fists in the air! Just you try us!

Where are you from?

Gothenburg, Sweden.

We're called Great Hare, after lots of nocturnal chance encounters with wild bunnies outside the studio.

Who else is in your band?

The four of us are singer and guitarist Kalle Mogren, bass player Berne Randulv, drummer Lars Olausson and guitarist Anders Holmström.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?

We formed a few years ago after a long hiatus from music to have a refuge from everyday life. So we built a primitive recording studio in a small attic. We turn up and turn on the lights at night looking for melodies that want to be turned into songs. Places that exist for a few minutes, with clouds, storms and pockets of calm. The good ones arrive like waves hitting a beach or echoes of something submerged under the surface.

Who are your main influences musically?

All of us share a love of indie rock, dreamy psychedelic sounds and 80s/90s alternative music. We filter that through influences like Big Star, Brian Eno, Neil Young, The Cure, Neu and Television. Discovering new bands through underground radio and blogs is always fun too.

What do you hope to achieve in music? 

Our aim is to keep chasing songs in the studio and put out singles and EPs on labels we look up to. And getting out and playing in front of people more often, we really miss that!

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

Probably hearing ourselves on BBC for the first time. But the other day we realized that we've reached 50,000 plays on SoundCloud which is equally mind-boggling to us. Knowing that someone in South America or Japan listens and likes what they hear makes our day.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

We still mourn a few tracks we've lost because of our ancient computer.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Call Me Stupid from our latest EP. It's a pop song inside a torrent of sounds.

We made it up on the spot after pressing record, and those are usually the best.

New album from Club K

JAZZ-tinged indie band Club K have released their album Let M Shake on Small Bear Records.

The album will be available on vinyl as well as digital download.

The Swedish band - Anton Linderoth, Samuel Johansson, Nora Hedberg, Klas Schéle, Joel Biel, William Herrlin and Richard Göthesson - gave RealSoundsOk a run-down of its history.

They said: "Club K started out in 2011 in the small town of Kristianstad. Samuel and Anton recorded some Frank Zappa songs as a school project and in between sessions Klas, Joel and William used to come in and eat pizza and jam. Club K was formed.

"After some time Nora and Andre joined and the band recorded the album 'Det er ikke din syld' (It's Not Your Fault), probably the best/worst debut in the history of music.

"In March 2013 the band released the 'I'm A Whale' EP. In 2014 Andre quit to focus on his art and Richard joined. After some records and several tours around Europe, Club K's new album is finally out

I don’t really know if we are a band, perhaps it’s more like a collaboration project. From the beginning there were a few left over songs of mine from a previous band that never found their right setting. So gifted Pär Berglund and me started to sort them out with a singer, who turned out to be the less reliable type. To save the situation we started to bring in more singers.Pär has left since then so now it’s me with singers Sonja Hewer (Best folk/rock singer in Germany 2006), Jan Johansen (Sweden, ESC 1995 final 3rd place), Ulla Wrethagen (Sweden), Piper McKinnon (Canada), Jenny Fall (Sweden), Pär Enqvist (Sweden) and more…

How would you describe yourselves?

We perform pretty soft singer-songwriter pop with slight influences from rock and country. You cannot scare children with us, or our music, no matter how hard you try.

Who are your main influences musically?

My musical roots are Neil Young, Dylan, Tom Petty, Queen, Pink Floyd, Pretenders and a lot of other music from the late 60s and 70s. In what way this manifests itself in our music is for others to judge.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

World dominance, well yes definitely world dominance. That said, empirical research has so far shown, due to lack of time and talent, that this could be a bit tricky and perhaps not attainable within in our lifetime. So we might settle for less (we are not proud). Less could be to have fun, make good music and find a listener or two who are not outright bored with us.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

Reactions to our first album were good and we made rotation on a few radio stations in Sweden and Luxemburg. That felt fine.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

Whenever I forget to push record on a golden vocal or guitar take.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Changes from day to day. But today I would pick the new single Life Goes On that will be released next month cause it feels most fresh and new to me.

Roenik Q&A

Niels Nankler (lead singer).

Where are you from?

Gothenburg, Sweden.

Roenik.

Who else is in your band?

Jonas Wållberg (keys and programming), John London (bass, engineering), Patrik Herrström (drums) and Polen Kurzawa (guitar).

How would you describe yourselves?

A group of school friends who shared the interests of making weird ideas come real, partying and - of course - music. 

Four years ago we were one of those bands that were bound to happen. With a management in London and New York, who shovelled money on us, we spent a year (2008-09) to and from London, playing showcase gigs, meeting labels and we recorded an album with demon producer Yoad Nevo (Air, Sugababes, Pet Shop Boys, Dave Gahan, Moby, Sophie Ellis Bextor among others). When the record was finished and it was nearing a release, the management two main characters could no longer cooperate and suddenly it was like the air castle under our feet disappeared.

Rationally, it was no difficulty seeing what needed to be done, but with so radically-altered conditions and plummeting spirits within the group, it became too heavy and the escape was close at hand. Especially as people began to leave and when Me And My Army (with several members the same as in Roenik) was born at the release party for Someone's Love Is Going To Die - the first single on what would have been our full-length debut - any other band would have gone to the grave.

But not us.

We still believe that what has happened can be turned into something to write on.

We have made this entire album ourselves, the whole procedure through, from recording, mixing to cover art etc. We feel incredibly invigorated by the process - this album is us. No selling compromises!

The feeling of gratitude to the people who always have been there and requested a continuation is extremely precious to us. Thank you!

Who are your main influences musically?

My very first musical love affair was with the Beatles and I guess it never really ended, it just evolved to include many others, like Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Flaming Lips, Spiritualized, Depeche Mode, and many more.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

I think I'm Still Here best represents our union between the organic and electronic. Or as put in other words below: "It's where the old clashes with the new that Roenik's music holds its ground. Never before has a pop and rock song had both feet in a so very modern four on the floor electronic foundation, yet held its head high in the melancholy and nostalgia of the Seventies and Eighties. With such elegance and total absence of friction that you don't know whether you're drumming the beat of the new or humming the tune of the old."

Arch Enemy release You Will Know My Name video

SWEDISH metallers Arch Enemy have released a video for new track You Will Know My Name.

Where are you from? 

We are from Stockholm, Sweden.

  

Who is in your band?

Carl Nordling (guitars), Pontus Qviberg (vocals and guitars) and Wilhelm Lindqvist (drums and backing vocals).

How would you describe yourselves? 

Three old friends with a big passion for music and creativity. We have been playing as a band for more than five years so we have a big friendship and comradery cemented in the band. We really have fun together, whether we are playing music or just hanging out drinking beer we always get along fine.

Who are your main influences musically? 

Mainly the alternative rock scene from the 90s, bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Jeff Buckley, My Bloody Valentine etc but we listen to all kinds of music as well.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Spreading our music to as many people as possible, and keeping the creative process alive and evolving.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

I would say when we released our first EP last autumn. It was the culmination of a long process we had worked on together for such a long period of time.

And what’s the moment you want to forget? 

Probably when our former stand-in bass player arrived 50 minutes late for a gig very drunk, which did not improve on his bass playing let me tell you that.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

I would say "Sertraline", because it really shows our influences and our own impression of them. Its a song that keeps on taking you in a new direction in a way.

Violent Divine Q&A

Your name:

My name is Divine - Mike Divine and the band name is Violent Divine. We often get the question how we picked the band name and what we mean by it. I think one of the toughest things about being in a band is to come up with a name that isn't too corny - even though some people have that opinion about Violent Divine, but that's ok. Just as long as they don't ignore us ;) The story behind the name is a bit weird however. We found an online blog written by a British, er, escort professional, named Violet Divine. That band name was however already taken by some rap act, if I remember correctly. So after a few pints we decided to go with Violent Divine. Of course it's also a great name since we can include it in lyrics, referring to Divine things or Violent things and have a bit of play with words. Interestingly, some people take offense by that, while others see the humour. 

Where are you from?

We're from a small Swedish town called Norrköping... well most of us that is. Oscar is from somewhere up north in the great outdoors. Somewhere.

Who else is in your band?

Besides me, who do the vocal parts, it's S.J Divine doing all things guitars, Oscar Divine is responsible for the bass and Simon Divine is banging the drums and whatnot. 

How would you describe yourselves?

As a band we try to put all of our energy into the songs and the live performance. It's supposed to leave you gasping for air. As individuals, well I guess we are all insane in four different ways. I am the manic primadonna (but also a nice guy), S.J is the angry guitarist who will stop at nothing to release his bottled up energy, like training some weird form of karate or riding his dirt bike, Oscar is the secretive weirdo of the band. It's like you never know what's on his mind or what will come out of his mouth next. Strangely enough, for a basist, he's the band's ladies-man. Simon has some not yet discovered three letter diagnose. I guess that's why he's behind the drums, doing sports, being a hard working student of things normal people can't possibly understand. 

Who are your main influences musically?

We have lots of individual musical influences. For me personally I pick up stuff from the 70s glam era, 70's punk, 80's glam, 80s British New wave of Heavy Metal as well as modern rock like Mudvayne, Five Finger Death Punch. But I also love Manic Street Preachers, Radiohead, Garbage and loads of indie/alternative stuff. I know S.J and Simon are into progressive stuff like Dream Theatre and Oscar is the thrash-freak, constantly namedropping bands I never heard of.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Well that's a tough question. Of course we'd love to be able to be on stage as much as possible, release new music when we want to. Luckily the DIY-way to do things makes it all so much easier, at least in my opinion. You no longer have to sit on your ass and wait for a label to do absolutely nothing. OK, I admit a star on Hollywood Boulevard wouldn't hurt, or maybe a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, but that'll have to wait I guess ;) 

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

I can think of three highlights actually. Doing gigs in the UK with brothers in arms New Generation Superstars, the Roko Naktys Festival in Lithuania was a blast both times we played there, and of course the Mama Trash Fest in Helsinki, Finland, is always great. That's like doing a show for the family. 

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

I (don't) remember a show in Lahti, Finland. I accidentally had too much of some Finnish liquer and just simply couldn't perform at all. Luckily there was only two people in the crowd. Unfortunately I met these two guys on the boat ferry back to Sweden and they carefully explained to me how much I sucked. They were right. The numer of people in the crowd isn't important. I give 100% plus for any size of audience. 

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

Personally I'd pick Blackheart because it's a great mix of heavy guitar riffs, a great melody and catchy chorus - and the lyrics are dark enough.
