Arkells deliver new track ahead of album release

ROCK five-piece Arkells are releasing their third record this summer and have released the track Never Thought That This Would Happen as a teaser.

The album was produced by Tony Hoffer (Beck, Phoenix, M83) and recorded in Highland, Los Angeles.

The Canadian band told RealSoundsOK: "We wrote the record in our hometown of Hamilton, with a workmanlike approach. We went in five days a week, had an hour for lunch, and rode our bike's home. Our workshop was a 150-year-old building: a former spice factory, turned gay nightclub, turned abandoned building. The room isn't acoustically primed, but that forced the band to keep the essentials, lock into the grooves, and let the natural reverb take the tunes into cinematic places.

"Never Thought That This Would Happen was inspired by this beautiful little summer festival in rural Ontario called Hillside. Under the sun, there's live music, workshops and summer dresses flowing in the wind. Beneath the moonlight, there's drinking, dancing, and campfire sing-a-longs. This song takes place after all of that, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The song is a slow-burner, but by the end of it you should be moving."
