Single, video and an album from Crooked House Road
INDIE folk collective Crooked House Road have released their single Mountain.And there's more reason to celebrate as the Toronto-based outfit have also put out a live video for the track Tell Me A Story and their self-titled album is out next week.
Shaina Silver-Baird from the band told RealSoundsOK: "Crooked House Road began when I met Mirian Kay at an open mic and we immediately sparked a friendship. She became my musical partner in crime and we began performing my original songs around Toronto.
"Since then, Crooked House Road has grown into a full band with our own unique fusion of folk, pop and blues music.
"After a successful first show, we set out to build our repertoire and find a solid collective of musicians to write our first full-length album.
"In a way, the Crooked House Road musicians found us. Derek Gray was my upstairs neighbour, Gram Whitty was a subtle musician we brought in for one gig and never let go, I met Joshua Skye Engel at synagogue playing a show for kids, and Tom Mifflin was an old buddy from university."

New video from In Hearts Wake
HARDCORE boy In Hearts Wake have unveiled the video for Badlands.The track is taken from the Byron Bay, New South Wales, band's new album Skydancer, released this month on UNFD.
Vocalist Jake Taylor told RealSoundsOK: "Badlands is a modernised western tale of the ever-classic and symbolic feud between cowboys and Indians.
"Written from the perspective of native outlaws, 'we will make a stand' against the invading miners who destroy the Earth only for personal gain. We recently saw this first-hand whilst driving through the invasive Texas oil wells that drain the planet 24/7 in search of profit."
In Hearts Wake have also released the video game Sky Hoppers, through which fans can unlock an exclusive song from Skydancer called Insomnia.

Visc returns with title track of new album
SYNTH-rock artist Visc has returned from the wilderness with new track Hired Guns.
Dylan Fellows - the Athens, Georgia, musician behind the project - took a step back from Visc last November and put out what was going to be an album out as the seemingly final EP Seasons.
But he confirmed he was back working on the Hired Guns album in April and has delivered the title track.
He told RealSoundsOK: "I try to write about things besides love and anger and other boring emotions. I usually prefer to write about a character, but put a new spin on that character.
"So for my next album I am writing about hired guns. But instead of writing about the realities of their job, I am writing about the problems that no one would really think about (and ones that probably don't exist). For instance, I have a song planned about being a hired gun who can't recognise faces, or a hired gun that has a fear of blood.
"Like Original Rebels, I wanted to take an evil character (or a misunderstood character) and really get to know them.
"The title track is more of an anthem for this album, and is the only song that actually talks about what mercenaries actually do. I've begun to focus more on guitar and bass and have been experimenting with recording lots of harmonies. Kind of a new direction for me, while keeping the same simplistic synth-pop base."

Where are you from?
Paris originally, living in London,

The Salvador Darlings.
Who else is in your band?
Bryan Borcherds.
How would you describe yourselves and your music?
We are
passionate about music so our music is the expression of our passion, like our
image, simple but true. Bryan is the composer of The Salvador Darlings and he's obsessed by
musical equipment and all the technical parts. Personally I'm so bad at it! It's better
if I don't touch this part, but I do play guitar and write songs. My role in The Salvador Darlings
is to create vocal melodies and build lyrics when I'm inspired.
Who are your main influences musically?
Anything that
moves us, it could be old school hip hop or jazz or classical, if it has the right feeling
then that’s what we like. When writing our own music it usually starts with a drum beat or synth
line, or a vocal melody, and if we find ourselves nodding our heads to the beat then we keep
on going with the song. So to answer your question it’s not a style or band that
influences us, it’s the groove and feeling.
We are also very influenced by the city we live in,
London. There’s so much magic and mystery, the history, people, and weather influences us.
The recording isn’t just done in a studio, it’s recorded out and about in London. For each
song we do outdoor recording to capture the magic of London, for example with our single
Show World we did additional vocal recording in Trafalgar Square on the coldest night
of the year. In the background you can hear the fountains, buses rumbling by, and a security
guard shouting at us asking us to leave. It’s quite original to do this kind of exciting
things!
What do you hope to achieve in music?
I just hope to
continue to enjoying music with my buddy and playing a lot of gigs everywhere in London
first and if it's possible going on the road to spread our music to everyone who wants to listen.
Of course I hope that people will enjoy our songs and us as people. Like I said earlier, we
are simple and we will stay like that, we want to be the close to our fans and share our story
and music with them. Our music is just a reflection of who we are so hopefully people can
relate to this.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and
why?
Every time we get to the studio. It’s so much fun, to either come in with a song
idea or create a new song idea.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Honestly for
the moment I have nothing to forget with The Salvador Darlings but I remember when I
was a little child, I had participate in a little song contest in my home town in France. It
was the first time I was singing in front of a lot of people on a stage, I was so stressed and my
mouth was very, very dry. During the song I couldn't control my mouth and I coughed to clear
my voice. It was terrible because I just wanted to be perfect and I wasn't.
If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent
your music, what would it be and why?
Show World because it's
our first song and "the meet up song" with Bryan, a very good one to introduce The
Salvador Darlings. It denounces the importance of the image today and this reality based in
fiction representations and relationships.

New album from My Baby
TRANCE folk rock band My Baby will release their new album Shamanaid on May 25th.They precede that with lead single Uprising with an accompanying video.
The Dutch trio - brother-sister pairing Cato and Joost van Dyke and guitarist Daniel 'daFreez' Johnston - have recently been touring the UK with US blues hero Seasick Steve.
My Baby carry a unique sound - as you will guess from my shoddy attempts to pigeon-hole them at the start of this article - taking in elements of folk, blues, roots, rock, dance, house, trance, psychedelia, gospel and lots more.
Talking about their sound, Joost says: "I always describe it as a drink. It's a brew loaded with the music styles we love. We borrow from the rich history of folk music from all around the world and bring it to the moment of now."

Where are you
from?
All over
California. I grew up in the East Bay of San Francisco and then lived in
Hollywood for 11 years. Currently I reside in San Diego. Next stop, if I
go any further South, Mexico!!
Name of band:
Leaders In The
Clubhouse.
Who else is in
your band?
My partner in
musicality is Charlie Recksieck. He basically plays piano and sings and I
play the drum kit and sing. We’ve been writing together and working on this
project for three years.
How would you
describe yourselves and your music?
Charlie and I
became friends first and foremost because we both love Warren Zevon and Randy Newman. I haven’t met too many people who truly love those guys.
And our writing,
together and individually, really shows those influences: Fun, funny,
sarcastic, sociopolitical… At least I hope people hear that :)
Who are your
main influences musically?
Besides those two guys, we’re all over the place. Charlie is a big Bruce Hornsby fan and I
would love to play drums in System of a Down. We have a lot of 1970's pop
influences, many of them British! ELO, Queen,
10cc, and the Kinks. I think you can hear that on our new album, Won.
What do you hope
to achieve in music?
World
domination, of course! Short of that, create a super fan base, make great
records, and tour.
What has been
the highlight of your career so far, and why?
I’m still
peaking! I’ve had lots of small victories, and meeting many famous people
along the way. I played with the Aussie band, the Divinyls for two days and I
once saw Mick Fleetwood in his tidy whiteys.
And what’s the
moment you want to forget?
Probably that
last one ;)
If you had to
pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Probably She
Gets Loud. It’s the song that started off this whole band thing. It’s become quite the crowd favorite. It showcases our
sense of humor and our abilities to rock.
Our guitarist
buddy, Andy Machin, does a ripping Brian May-style solo in it. Worth the price
of admission!

What is your name?

Who else is in your band?
André Lopes (vox), Edgar Fernandes (bass), Vitor Parreira (guitar) and Valente
Fagundes (drums on this cd). The new drummer will be announced soon.
How would you describe yourselves?
We’re ambitious and work as
hard as we can most of the time. Because of our complicated location we embrace
pretty much everything that crosses our path.
Who are your main influences musically?
We all have different influences, but as a
group these are pretty accurate: Killswitch Engage, The Sorrow, As I Lay Dying
and Bullet for My Valentine.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
We hope to keep writing, playing and
recording songs for as long as we can while meeting new people and sharing
stages with other bands.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and
why?
Everything
we’ve done until now is very important to us but I would like to highlight the
recording of our debut EP throughout 2014 and its release by the end of the
same year., because it was like a bucket list objective for some of us and
something we’ll never forget.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
None. We’ve been fortunate so
far.
If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent
your music, what would it be and why?
The
second track from Debt of Words, Salvation, that kicks in after the
instrumental intro. I could choose any other song from our EP but I think this
one sets the mood for what is yet to come along the way, not only throughout
the record but also concerning every aspect we incorporate in all of our songs.
