Shotaway Q&A

Name:
Mark Thompson (guitarist).

Where are you from?
Southampton, England.

Name of band:
Shotaway (remember the name).

Who else is in your band?
Sergei Bartlett – frontman; Will Porter - rhythym guitarist; Chase Bartlett - bass (Sergei’s little bro); Dickie Preston – drums; and myself on lead guitar.

How would you describe yourselves?
Umm.. well we came up with this the other day.. haha
Garage Gangsta Blues Infused Indie Rock n Roll. Ooosshh!

Who are your main influences musically?
Personally? Beatles (standard), Rolling Stones, Led Zep, Arctic Monkeys anything from the delta blues in 50s to 60s, 70s rock ‘n’ roll mixed up a bit with modern day rock and some old skool gangsta rap!

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Play shit loads of gigs all over the world, record loads of songs! thats what its all about.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Probably headlining Joiners which was packed out, crowd surfing fans. It was pretty crazy man! Or maybe Southsea Fest. playing in Little Johnny Russells. It turned in to a amped up sweatbox, rumour has it they were stopping people from coming in cuz it was hectic!

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Hahaaa.... probably before we played a proper gig we had a open mic night at some shitty pub in the middle of nowhere just to get the feel of it all live. My guitar was the ‘soundman’s’ telecaster, which he modified to sound like a banjo, literally! Our bassist at the time couldn't tune his bass by himself and he forgot how to play ALL the songs! (don’t worry he's not in the band now, he's still a legend though!) haha. Yeahhh that was all pretty embarrassing

If you could choose one of your songs as an advert for your music, what would it be and why?
Ohh that’s hard man! I wanna say ‘More Money’, which will be on the new EP out in February. But iI can't say that, listen to it when it comes out to see why! haha.
Sooo.. I’m gonna say ‘Seen It All Before’. It’s got a bit of everything of what we're about in it. It’s quite slow and chilled, but the choruses are quite dirty and gritty, ya know? The vocals are fucking sweet in it as well.. Just wait for the double drop solo at the end as well!! Dont miss it haha.

Where can we listen to it?
It’s out along with three other tracks on our latest EP, yet to be named.
FEBRUARY 8TH - it will be on Itunes/Spotify/Soundcloud etc.

Where can we find out more about your music?
Website is coming soon! Follow us on Facebook for news and updates!

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Come and watch us live! It’s pretty nuts!
