Mansions and Junipers Q&A

Your name:
Matthew Filler.

Where are you from?
I grew up in Jersey, and I've lived in NYC for a number of years now.

Name of band:
Mansions and Junipers.

Who else is in your band?
Richard Bennett, Bob Vaccarelli, Salvatore Boyd, and myself.

How would you describe yourselves?
I don't know, but here's some lit from a recent review that I like: "darkest of lullabies" / "allegiance to the cause of producing synth and guitar melodies that bubble alongside memorable vocal hooks" / "ruthless efficiency" / "wisps of OMD hanging in the vocals" / "enigmatic circular synth loops" / "melodic eddies".

Who are your main influences musically?
Lots of stuff, musical and non-musical... but as for those that we literally emulate in the writing? Bowie, Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, Chromatics, Joy Division, Scott Walker... there's too many. I mean, pick one and follow it down the rabbit hole.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Good question... two-part answer:
1. To never take this for granted. To always treat it with respect. I am very fortunate to get to do this.
2. To make a living, build a glass and steel passive house, and fill it with lucite furniture.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Sometimes we get our own dressing room stocked with beer.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Not really... We've never had a band member go missing before a show or anything like that. Wait oh yeah, we did.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Really tough question... there's a few songs that people tend to gravitate towards, depending on their personal tastes. I'm going to go with 'One' from Auto EP.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?
Facebook will link you to everything - https://www.facebook.com/mansionsandjunipers
And you can purchase the whole darn catalog virtually anywhere, but the best prices for everyone are on bandcamp - http://mansionsandjunipers.bandcamp.com/
There's also some free downloads there as well.

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Yes. We are very dangerous.
