The Folk Remedy Q&A

Your name:

Matt Whoriskey.

Where are you from?
Derry, Northern Ireland.

Name of band:
The Folk Remedy

Who else is in your band?
Maria Bonner (vocals, violin) and Rob Ryle (guitar).

How would you describe yourselves?
We are a folk group, heavily influenced by country and indie and we like to think we merge these sounds with a pinch of pop too!

Who are your main influences musically?
There are so many but mainly our influences come from Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Elbow, Neil Young, The Postal Service and Damien Jurado & loads more too!

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Recognition and we want our music to be heard all over. I think we do have something that people like at the moment and it’s a dream of ours to share that.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

Our response on twitter, particularly over the last few weeks has been a huge highlight. We’ve received countless followers, loads of radio play and fantastic reviews from lovely, generous people!

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

The ride home from a gig in Sheffield a few weeks ago. Travelling over Snake Pass from Manchester and the return leg over some unknown road in the Peak District was one white knuckle ride at 5mph I would like to erase from my memory!  We’ve only been playing together a short while and thankfully nothing disastrous has occurred on stage yet, YET!

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

I would say New York Skyline.  It’s the first song I ever really wrote and it means a lot to me.  Since we formed the band, Rob’s and Maria’s input to this song has made it even more meaningful.  It was written on honeymoon.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Just to mention that we have an EP coming out in April called Sirens.  It can be streamed from http://soundcloud.com/thefolkremedy/sets/sirens-ep/

We’re supporting Linnea Olsson from Sweden on Friday 8th March too, who’s recently had a 4-star review in Q Magazine, so we’re excited about that!
