Delta Savannah Q&A

Your name:
Christopher Langley Johnston and Victoria Johnston.

Where are you from?
Stourbridge, UK.

Name of band:
Delta Savannah.

Who else is in your band?
Just the two of us at the moment although we would love to have more members to bring in new ideas and talents.

How would you describe yourselves?
At the moment we’re still developing our own personal style and sound but genrewise we’re probably pop. We’re all about promoting positive feelings and beliefs which hopefully can show our listeners a brighter side of life.

Who are your main influences musically?
Between the two of us our influences and tastes in music are actually quite different. Chris is more into the pop/soul/R&B influenced music while Vicky prefers things a little rockier which we’d like to do more of in the future, especially if we get more band members. Miyu Nagase is Chris’s main R&B style influence but he’s also influenced by George Harrison (for the spiritual side of music and slide guitar), Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell and Julian Lennon. Vicky’s influences include thenewno2, Kimbra, Stevie Nicks and bands like Marquis of Vaudeville.
But we have also been influenced by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Paloma Faith, particularly regarding vocals although these have been pretty recent and as such haven’t perhaps shown in our own material.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Obviously we want to make music that people enjoy and that we enjoy playing but three main goals we have are:
- To work with the people we want to work with (especially Miyu Nagase and Dhani Harrison)
- To be influential sending out a positive message through our music
- To earn enough money to give our little girl the best start in life we can!

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
The fantastic support that we have had from other musicians and the wonderful new friends we have made.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
We’ve probably forgotten it!

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
That’s a toughie. Of the songs we’ve put out so far it would probably have to be “Be Alright Believe”.  We wrote it after having a car accident where someone ran into the back of us. We had our little girl in the car with us at the time and as we were unable to drive home ourselves we called Vicky’s parents and asked if they could take her home with them while we waited for recovery.
When we got home it was late and our daughter was staying overnight at Vicky’s parent’s house so we used the opportunity to write a new song. Rather than being based on the negative experience we’d just had we wrote the song about thinking positively and keeping a strong belief even when times seems hard. It was very much a joint effort with us both contributing music and lyrics and it definitely has that positive message behind it.
It’s also a song that has had a great reaction when we’ve performed it live which is always nice.

Where can we listen to it?
