Where are you from?
Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Name of band:
Who else is in your band?
Joy Lynn, Chris Doi, Terence Gillespie and Casey Adams.
How would you describe yourselves?
Open Sails are band on a mission. We understand the roles of performers means leaving fans with an unforgettable experience. With catchy songs and uplifting messages, audiences will relate to the passion behind the music.
Who are your main influences musically?
Everyone in the band has different personal influences, but the bands that most influence our overall sound I would say are Paramore, Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy and Anberlin.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
We would love to have music become our careers. To be able to travel around the world and share our passion. Music is a universal language. We'd love the oppurtunity to "speak" to as many people as we can.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
We've played with a lot of really awesome local talents so far including High Hopes, The Red Threat and California Lane Change. We have been given the incredible opportunity to open for Silverstein and The Wonder Years. It still hasn't quite hit us yet that we are going to be playing with bands we all grew up listening to and it's very exciting.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
I had the difficult task of asking our original ryhthm guitar player to step down from the band. He was a really good friend and it was extremely hard to do but was a decision we all felt was right.
If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
We have a soon to be released song called "You My Love" that I feel encompasses our overall sound and the direction we are heading in. We love having a rock sound while incorporating clean and clear melodies that doesn't alienate an audience.
Where can we listen to it?
There is a quick teaser of it at the end of our studio update video. You can watch/listen to it here:http://youtu.be/po4y6kfYcvg
Where can we find out more about your music?
Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
