James
Thorley.
Where are you from?
My nearest city is Preston, however I
grew up in a nearby town called Leyland (Lancashire, England) along with the rest of the band.
Name of band:
Gallows Gate.
Who else is in your band?
As well as
myself on drums the rest of the band are made up of John Moss on lead vocals
and guitar, Howard Little on guitar and Christian Redfearn on bass.
How would you describe yourselves?
We’re a metal/hard
rock band that really tries to put the melody first. We have Megadeth and Metallica
driven riffs with Maiden style instrumental breaks but above all that we try to
make sure the vocal melodies are strong and that you’re walking away
remembering a hook.
Who are your main influences musically?
Everyone in the
band for the most part has the same musical tastes, although we all have a few
exceptions that the others can’t stand! I’d say Iron Maiden, Metallica and
Dream Theater were some of the big influences when we first started out, some
of the more recent (the past 10 years) metal acts such as Alter Bridge and
Black Stone Cherry and especially Sacred Mother Tongue gave us the inspiration
to experiment with lower tunings and sort of develop our own sound. I think
we’ve tried to stop sounding like one of our favorite bands and decided to become
one instead ha!
What do you hope to achieve in music?
The dream is
definitely to do this full time. I know in this day and age musicians are
struggling to make ends meet more than ever, but I’d at least want to be able
to come away from it all saying I gave it a good shot, and I feel at this
moment in time as a band we have a lot more to say musically.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and
why?
Reading and hearing all the great feedback from our new EP via our ever
growing Twitter audience! It really gives me the drive to carry on making music
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
There’s nothing
to regret! (yet..)
If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent
your music, what would it be and why?
That’s a tough one seeing as we only have
one release so far! I’d say check out ‘Mistakes of yesterday’ it has a bit of
everything, great example of the riffs, catchy chorus and a very Maiden
inspired harmony and solo section.
Where can we listen to it?
Where can we find out more about your music?
Our self-titled EP is available right now digitally via iTunes. We do
have a limited run of CDs you can pre order through our big cartel store,
however once they sell out we’re not doing any more! (time to focus on EP
number 2!!)
