ISH Q&A

Your names:
Andriea and Caleb Ishman.

Where are you from?
We were both born and raised in Indiana. Caleb is from Gary, IN, and I am from Indianapolis, IN. We currently live in Chicago, IL.

Name of band:
ISH. This is a shortened version of our last name Ishman. Friends nicknamed us Mr. and Mrs. Ish. So, when it came time to name the band, we went with what was natural. We also learned that Ish, in Hebrew, means husband and Isha means wife, which is very fitting for us and what we represent.

How would you describe yourselves?
We are passionate, fun-loving musicians who strive to share our gifts and message of family and positivity with the rest of the world. We're two creative kids who were chasing our dreams, ran into each other, fell in love, teamed up, and started chasing our dreams together. Individually, Andriea is an introvert who loves to spend hours on end alone with her laptop, books, and her journal, while Caleb is the social butterfly who thrives in the spotlight. Andriea is the planner, and Caleb is the spontaneous one. We're the epitome of opposites attract.

Who are your main influences musically?
Stevie Wonder, Take 6, Michael Jackson, Ella Fitzgerald, Jill Scott, India Arie, Daryl Coley

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We hope to create timeless music, to achieve international status as independent artists, and to inspire change and give hope to our listeners.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
In the Summer of 2013, we produced and performed a seven-city tour to promote our upcoming album "Pineapple Tuesday". It felt like such an accomplishment, because it was a major project that we completed together. We had so much fun out on the road, just the two of us, doing what we love!

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Caleb: Doing a gig that was supposed to include a live band but ended up being Andriea and I on drums and a battery operated piano!
Andriea: I don't want to forget anything. I want to be able to look back on every experience I've had -- good, bad, crazy, etc-- and have some great stories to tell and laugh about.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
"The Vows". It was the first duet that we wrote together, and this song doesn't follow the rules. We take risks with our music. When people hear that we are a singing couple, they assume that we're going to be singing slow love songs for an hour. We love to create songs with hard knocking bass and drums that'll make you move!

Where can we listen to it?
