Fluent In Grey Q&A

Your name:
Anna Marcella.

Where are you from?
I'm originally from the USA (around Chicago), though currently living in London.

Name of band:
Fluent in Grey.

Who else is in your band?
Simon Langford (England), Marco Italia (Italy), Phil Page (England). All living in London.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
It's hard to pin point our sound, but I think we fit somewhere between alt-rock and indie pop. We all come from various musical backgrounds, so our music tends to reflect this with ambient production, airy and catchy vocal melodies and deep grooves. Simon and I tend to vary on our musical styles (though we overlap with some influences as well), which actually works out really well when it comes to creating our style because we both push each other in various directions that we normally wouldn't consider, but end up loving. Usually, most of our songs start with just me and keys and then Simon brings them to life with his ambient and moody production style. Phil and Marco then fill in the rest with a great groove.

Who are your main influences musically?
There are too many influences to name, but comparisons that people have been making so far are a mix of Portishead, Daughter and the Cure. We are really thrilled that those names are being thought of when hearing our music, as they are definitely bands we all love and listen to often.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We are all really passionate about music, so it's more fun for us then anything else, but we're equally excited about the potential of the project and the feedback we've been getting so far too. We'd of course love to support ourselves on music alone in the future and are working hard to do so. For now though, we are happy to just see where this project takes us. We had a great time putting together our debut single, 'Lost' these past couple of months and now promoting it, so we are really excited to continue down this road. We're planning a four track E.P. in early 2015 and just confirmed that we will be recording at Monnow Valley Studios in Wales. We feel so lucky for the chance to be in their studio with our new tracks and can not wait to hear what comes out of our time there.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
I'm not sure for the guys, but for myself it was hearing our debut single, 'Lost' on the radio for the first time while we were rehearsing for our first show. We all gathered around our little smart phone and a portable speaker to listen. We were all smiles and it felt great to hear it broadcasted after all the hard work the last couple of months. I hope that there are a lot more highlights like that in the future!

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Touch wood, but there hasn't been one yet. We're new, so I'm sure that will change!

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
At the moment we only have one track out called, 'Lost'. We are really happy with how it turned out and feel it is a good representation of who we are and more to come with our planned E.P. in early 2015.

Where can we listen to it?
We also have a beautifully shot video for the song that you can watch on youtube.
