Deviance Q&A

Your name:
Zane Pugh (Vocals).

Where are you from?
Spokane, Washington, USA.

Name of band:
Deviance.

Who else is in your band?
Matt Woodworth on Drums, Schyler Collins on Rhythm Guitar, Devon Mize on Lead Guitar, and Ty Carney on Bass.

How would you describe yourselves?
Well, we are a crazy bunch of kids just playing music for ourselves. I would say though we are really passionate about our music and believe that the words in most music today or the guitars or anything don't have any connection emotionally, mentally or any other form. What we are trying to accomplish with our music is to display to everyone that you don't have to wear a mask or cover your true feelings in life. People in today's society try fitting in with different cliches, groups or possies instead of living life for themselves. We are also very strong supporters of suicide prevention due to us losing friends in our growing music scene to suicide. To make a long story short, we are very passionate with everything we do musically and business

Who are your main influences musically?
Well, my main influences would consist of such bands as: letlive., Comeback Kid, Such Gold, Hundredth, Counterparts and many more. As for the rest of the band I believe we all share the same similarities in music. More of our sound comes from the inspirations of The Ghost Inside, Comeback Kid, The Story So Far and Such Gold.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
I personally just want people to feel the emotion I feel when I am on stage, I wish for nothing more. I mean yes it would be awesome to be signed and tour with big bands but that is not the main cause for why we as a band play music. We play music for the sole purpose it's how we cope with day to day problems, emotional stress, and its because we love it. I feel as if more people in today's society are more focused on getting signed and all their problems will all of a sudden disappear, but in reality you still have to work for your music to get out of your local scene. Touring, management, and booking is more Do It Yourself than anything.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Oh wow, I would say probably sharing the stage with a very good friend of mine in letlive Jason Butler because this guy alone has inspired me to continue playing music. But our biggest highlight as a band would be our first tour in February.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Our Karliah EP, we originally had the intent of playing more technical metal classified as "Djent". We grew bored of the style very fast!

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Probably Truesdale, the reason being is because the song's lyrics clearly state that when times go to hell that you don't have to fall back on a false belief or lie to yourself about your true thoughts. I used the term of "religion" to add a significant impact to the listener so they know that there is no need to let the words of others change you or anything. I hate being forced into ones beliefs on subjects and this song is the result of being pushed into a corner many times.
Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Just for people to not live their lives in fear of what others have to say and to come hang out with us.
