Schemata Theory Q&A

Your name:
Luke Wright (Vocalist).

Where are you from?
Reading, England.

Name of band:
Schemata Theory.

Who else is in your band?
Myles Dyer my co-vocalist, Huw Roch on Lead Guitar, Mario Scinto on Rhythm Guitar, Carl Quanstrom on Bass & Joshua Barretto on Drums.

How would you describe yourselves?
This is a question that causes all manner of arguments within the band. The easy answer would be metal-core but to be honest we touch on so many genres and style in our songs that it's hard to pin down just one genre.

Who are your main influences musically?
Personally my main influences lie in the prog rock genre, bands like Rush, Queensryche, King Crimson and to lesser point prog metal bands like Mastodon, Tool & Dream Theater. I know Carl, who incidentally writes the instrumental elements of the music, is a big Dream Theater fan which does mean prog elements can tend to seep into the music every now and then. Regarding influences on this album in particular there are quite a lot of 80’s thrash inspired riffs on the album, as well as more groovy riffs favoured by Pantera, Lamb of God, Threat Signal and the like.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
World domination would be awesome but honestly I'd just like to be able to make a living touring the world and playing music, that's the dream.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Well it's very much in its infancy at the moment but I think my highlight so far would be shooting our first music video for 'A Complex Slate'. It was a shattering but awesome experience and one I'll never forget.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
There haven't really been any moments as of yet that I'd choose to forget. If you simply forget when anything goes wrong you never have the chance to learn from it and I believe it is often how you react to things going wrong that shapes your future.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
For me I would choose 'The Final Breath' which is the last track on the album. The reason being it showcases so many of the different styles evident in our music. It has crushing brutality, intricate guitar solos, thrash style chugging riffage and even orchestral elements mixed with the combination of soaring vocal melodies and visceral screams that ties the album together. Also lyrically it kind of wraps up the themes of the album as a whole.

Where can we listen to it?
You can check out the whole album on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA-k8wMu25c which is the link to 'The Final Breath' in the album playlist.
