Soma Dark Q&A

Your name:
Arun Kamath.

Where are you from?

Manchester, England.

Name of band:

Soma Dark

Who else is in your band?
Michael Hardman - vocals
Stuart Armriding - guitars & backing vocals
Arun Kamath - guitars
Luke Jones - bass
James McMurrough - drums

How would you describe yourselves?

We are a heavy melodic groove metal band.

Who are your main influences musically?

We have several! Our extensive range include Deftones, Machine Head, Tool, Pantera, Metallica, Devin Townsend, Pink Floyd, Killswitch Engage, Rammstein, Iron Maiden..... the list goes on!

What do you hope to achieve in music?

We hugely enjoy the music we create, and we hope that this enjoyment will reflect through to others so that they will find something to enjoy as well.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?

We have had a few already, some examples would be playing Manchester Club Academy in January 2012, supporting Forever Never at Moho Live (now NQ live) in Manchester in August 2012, and also embarking on a couple of mini tours around the UK where we travelled with our two main friends:  the music and the beer!

And what’s the moment you want to forget?

While there are definitely moments we would probably want to forget, these moments as well as the good ones have been integral in shaping the band to what it is today, and every experience be it postive or negative is a lesson learned in some way. Therefore on reflection, we wouldn't change a thing.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?

While our music cannot be represented in just one song, if we had to choose one we'd choose the song Sundowns Last Raise. This is the closing track on our debut album Begin, and the reason for the choice is that it has a little bit of everything that we do. From heavy riffs to the ethereal to the big melodies, it encapsulates everything about our musical style.

Where can we listen to it?
