Tiny Phillips Q&A

Your name:
Pete (Pizz) - Vocals.

Where are you from?
Manchester, UK.

Name of band:
Tiny Phillips.

Who else is in your band?
We’ve got:
Nick – Guitar / Keys
Ric – Guitar
Dan – Bass Guitar
Sam – Drums
James – Synth/Keys

How would you describe yourselves?
At the most basic, we’re an Indie band from Manchester. Indie rock/indie pop/grime and electro influenced – you can drill down as deep as you want to.
We live to write and perform music, driven by Mancunian/British culture. Though generally, we prefer to let others take what they want from what they hear and see.

Who are your main influences musically?
Foals, The Cure, Pendulum… There’s three to mix! It’s a difficult question as we’re all different characters. If you listen to the songs, I think the mix of influences that comes through is huge.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We always had an aim to write songs that people can get drunk to, be happy to, share sad times with. Music is an emotional thing and we try to tap into that with songs you can relate to in most situations. Providing a soundtrack to a life, I guess.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
It’s difficult to pick out one part. Creating music and performing it as Tiny Phillips has been an incredible experience. We toured last year with Peter Hook & The Light. Being on the road for a good while, playing shows to good crowds every night that were totally into what Manchester music was all about, that was great. Every time we get played, every show, every interview is a highlight.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Anybody who’s in, or close to a band can tell you that its never all roses. You have to spend a huge amount of time together and being human, you can get on each other’s tits sometimes!
Probably, though few and far between, it would be those times. At the end of the day – we’re all brothers (metaphorically, anyway!) and we love what we do together.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
For me personally, it would most likely be Pantheon. It’s a big track, it’s got atmosphere, edge and, especially when we play it out live – the guitars roar towards the climax of the track. We love playing it, full stop.

Where can we listen to it?
You can find it here -
Though it will be officially re-released in a free pack of all our demos, later in the month.
