The Unassisted Q&A

Your name:
Jason Hughes.

Where are you from?
Anglesey, Wales, but now live in Manchester, England.

Name of band:
The Unassisted.

Who else is in your band?
Mark Beese - Bass
Chris Bertenshaw - Drums

How would you describe yourselves?
Laid back and never take life to seriously.

Who are your main influences musically?
I wouldn't say anyone influences me musically! I like musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Billy Corgan, Jack White and so on but I don't aspire to be like them or sound like them....
My music comes from sitting down with a guitar and playing whatever melody pops in my head and taking it from there. If you listen to our songs this is clearly the case as we don't aspire to a "sound" that has been influenced like other bands where all of our tracks sound similar! Where's the fun in that? And what a boring mould to set yourself in! I know it's commercially viable to do this so record companies can pigeon hole you to a genre and sell you as a product but conforming to the norm is far to dull for me so I say write whatever music you want in whatever style you want and if its good people will like it, music is expression and creativity not a product to manufacture and sell....

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To have people listen and genuinely connect to the songs! Can't ask for more than that :)

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Meeting people who have found us online and come to see us play at shows. We were genuinely shocked to see that people liked the music enough to come and catch a live show.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Nothing so far its all been a blast.

If you had to choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I'd choose Hands Dance Hands as it has a great message of getting out there and living for the moment but sharing that with someone as you never know when its over. That represents our music as that's how we are in general and our overall approach to our band!

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Yeah, come give us a listen if you fancy something fresh n a bit different :)
