Sebastopol Q&A

Your name:
Nick Powell.

Where are you from?

London, England.

Name of band:
Sebastopol.

Who else is in your band?
Phil Richards (guitar) and Tom Standage (drums). I sing and play bass.

How would you describe yourselves?
Modern alternative rock, played by the cast of The Hour.

Who are your main influences musically?
The post-punk bands of the 1980s mixed with a bit of modern dub magic.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
World domination, starting with South London.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Being told during an interview for BBC Radio that we were amazing. Though Vince Clarke from Erasure saying he liked one of our videos was also pretty cool.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Forgetting the words on stage during the final song. We were playing our first single Send the Boats, and my mind just went blank. I think Phil and Tom wanted to murder me!

If you had to choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Lucky Side Down from our debut album Hello All Stations, This Is Zero. It’s all about inevitable failure, which is a very Sebastopol theme. Plus it’s always great when we play it live.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say that I forgot to ask?
