Come The Spring Q&A

Your names:
Macca (bass player) and David (guitarist).

Where are you from?
Towns and villages across East Sussex.

Name of band:
Come The Spring.

Who else is in your band?
Until recently, Come The Spring were Vic (vocals), Simon and David (guitar), Jamie (drums) and myself on bass. Currently we're undergoing a small line up change.

How would you describe yourselves?
Classic mid-90s post-hardcore with a modern sheen.  Big songs played by beardy blokes with big hearts.

Who are your main influences musically?
When we started out we wanted to play songs like those bands that inspired us growing up - Texas Is The Reason, Chamberlain, Quicksand, The Promise Ring, etc.  Our EP is essentially a recording of the first six songs we wrote and the specific influences are quite obvious. As we've developed as a band over the last 12 months, I think we've found our own sound - and started to incorporate more varied influences, from classic rock to LetLive!  There's definately a 'Come The Spring groove'....

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We've all been in different bands over the years and there's no finer achievement than good memories of good times with good friends. There's nothing I'd rather be doing than playing music and at this point I feel blessed to have another opportunity to make meaningful music that I can be proud of, and that people will listen to and engage with. That's it really.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Personally speaking I have two. The first was listening back to the rough mix of our EP for the first time - I'd missed the last couple of days of recording and it was the first time I'd heard the songs through with the guitar parts and the vocals. We hadn't even played live at that point, and I was blown away by how it all came together.
The second was the first acoustic gig we played. We're normally pretty loud live so we approached an acoustic set with some trepidation. We hadn't had much chance to practise and Jamie made a last minute decision to play a cajon. Anyway, despite a large amount of winging, it all came together beautifully. It was a great night in a great venue.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Hmmm.... tricky! We've had a couple of dodgy gigs - I tore my knee cartilage at one, which required an operation to fix it. That gig was actually pretty great - however, the following one where I was in a splint and had to sit down for the duration was not a lot of fun.

If you had to choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I'd probably pick Statues - it's a big rock song with a massive ending, and closes our EP and set very nicely.  Its also an easy one to dance along to.

Where can we listen to it?
