Stereo Off Q&A

Band name:
Stereo Off.

Where are you from?
We're mostly based in New York City. Niall is from the UK but now based in NYC.

Who else is in your band?

Sebastian on vocals and keys, Steve on guitar and backing vocals, Bridget on keyboard on newer tracks viola, Darren on drums, Niall on bass and some guitar. It's mainly Niall and Sebastian answering the questions on here.

How would you describe yourselves?
We are tied together by music. Whether it be one of us coming from the UK band scene and working in the industry before, to the rest of us who attended various music schools during college, we've all gambled our fate on artistic endevours. Musically one person described it as science meeting whisky.

Who are your main influences musically?
A mix of sounds but heavily influenced by each persons taste. For instance Niall is more into bands such as Foals, British Sea Power, The Faint and various 90's indie bands, where Sebastian likes a mix of cleaner sounds such as: Daft Punk, Phoenix, Black Keys and Metric. Bridget brings a mix of classical and rock influences, ranging from Camper Van Beethoven to Dmitri Shostakovich, while Steve cites Tom Waits, Blur and QOTSA.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
The ability to build a collection of tracks that we like, and obviously getting the music out there to make you dance a bit and think a bit to. Being able to live off of it would be nice too of course.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
It's early days for this band, first EP just went live on http://stereooff.bandcamp.com this month, but getting to play some of our favorite New York venues was nice, as well as getting some instrumental takes used on various short films.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
We did unfortunately have a cheap keyboard bag which ripped open on the way to a show once, the keyboard smashed on the ground and no longer worked. Luckily Bridget also was able to play the viola for that show, hence finding some new ideas for our sound in the process - and the show went quite well actually.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?Of our five-song EP Photographs is a good mix of the catchy hooks and style overall. Bullet Time is a good mix of styles overall, sort of electro meets
indie. Its also going to be our first music video in the coming weeks.

Where can we listen to it?
The aforementioned stereooff.bandcamp.com as well as some additional tracks on www.stereooff.com

Where can we find out more about your music?
