Geoff Pinckney.
Where are you
from?
Born in Harlow,
Essex, but now live in West Sussex. I'm drawn to places that have the word SEX
in them!
Name of band:
Who else is in
your band?
Mr Peter Steer.
How would you
describe yourselves?
Individuals who
share a love of electronic music throughout the decades since the late 70s and
have come together as Tenek with the intention of bringing our own brand of
rock tinged electronic music to a wide and enthusiastic audience.
Who are your main
influences musically?
I'm an 80s kid
at heart. Enjoying the sounds of Gary Numan, Ultravox, Simple Minds, Talk Talk,
Thomas Dolby, Tears for Fears, Kraftwerk, Cabaret Voltaire, Shriekback, Fad
Gadget and Yello to name just a few. A big fan of Trevor Horn and Steve
Lipson's production in the 80s with bands like Frankie Goes to Hollywood and
Propaganda. Currently enjoying the output from bands like White Lies, Recoil
and Nine Inch Nails. Current favourite producers are Alan Moulder, Flood
and Ed Buller. Favourite film music composer Hans Zimmer. I love music that has
depth, atmosphere and emotion.
What do you hope
to achieve in music?
To be recognised
for writing, recording, mixing and producing music of a high standard. Getting
more of my music used in adverts or major films and to continue to do it as a
full time profession until I go deaf or die or something.
What has been
the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Getting one of
my tracks used on the Jim Carrey / Ewan McGregor film, 'I Love You Phillip
Morris' and seeing my name in the closing credits. Allowing myself the
opportunity to be a full time songwriter and producer.
And what’s the
moment you want to forget?
Tenek gig in
Braunschweig, Germany 2011. The worst, most tech problem riddled Tenek gig
ever!
If you had to
pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Difficult choice
but I'd go for 'If I Should Fall' as it was the track that was the catalyst for
forming Tenek and it incorporates all the elements and influences that continue
to be a part of every Tenek track.
Where can we
listen to it?
Where can we
find out more about your music?
Anything else
you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?
Yes, we're
currently working on our new album, 'Smoke and Mirrors' for release sometime in
2014. We thought it amusing to have thought of the title before actually
writing the music. Imagine it done and all the rest will fall in to place :)
We have also set up the re-issue of our EP1+ and it is now available for pre-orders via tenek.bandcamp.com/album/ep1
