The Byzantines Q&A

Courtesy of Jennifer Sando
Band name:
The Byzantines.

Where are you from?
Adelaide, Australia.

Who is in your band?
Michael Pietrafesa - Vox
Rhys Overall- Guitar - Synth
Jose Moucho - Bass
David Zammit - Guitar
Johnny Zervas - Drums

How would you describe yourselves?
Our style is electronic rock with a strong British flavour. It’s reminiscent of the late 80s early 90s Manchester scene, combining elements of indie/psych/electronic music.

Who are your main influences musically?
Primal Scream, Kasabian, The Stone Roses.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Just make great music that people will (hopefully) dig for years to come. In saying, if we happen to get the opportunity to tour the world doing it, we wouldn’t be complaining, haha.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Although it technically hasn’t happened yet, our European/UK tour (in September this year) will definitely be the highlight. I feel it’ll be a great learning experience, plus it’ll be our first time as a touring band. That’ll be interesting.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Surprisingly, none. I’ll let you know after the European tour haha.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I guess it would have to be ‘Cats Got Boots’. It’s got a little bit of everything in it. Sums up the approach we generally take to writing music (especially that EP).

Where can we listen to it?
