Scarlett Gypsy Q&A

Your name:
Scotty Scarlett.

Where are you from?
York, Pennsylvania.

Name of band
Scarlett Gypsy.

Who else is in your band?
Dave Mathew (Vocals-Keyboard), Steve Ray Plonk (Guitar & Vocals), Robert Douglas (Bass), Scotty Scarlett  (Drums – Background Vocals). Together these four combined create a great new refreshing sound of old school rock complete with blazing guitar riffs, melodic vocals and infectious hooks.

How would you describe yourselves?
Glam metal/old school hard rock band boldly combining elements of raw rock with glam-fuelled gritty funk/blues style guitar riffs, melodic vocals and all-around high-octane music.

Who are your main influences musically?
All the members of the band are different. The bevy of sub-genres associated with glam metal and hard rock have often given birth to one-off bands and songs, but rarely is there an entire band assembled with the primary purpose of getting in a room together to watch what happens when their respective creative juices blend into a unique and identifiable sound. Some of the bands that influenced us were bands like Scorpions, Kix, Earth Wind & Fire, Queen, Judas Priest, AC/DC and Motley Crue.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To be able to continue to create music that people connect with and that never sounds dated i.e., AC/DC songs sound as current today as they did in the 80s

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
The highlight so far has been the international release of our debut album “All Access”. As an indie artist we feel like we have finally fulfilled a milestone to have our music available to fans all around the world. Before the internet and retailers like Amazon and iTunes, this was an improbable goal w/out major label support. Because so many online retailers are indie band friendly, we have been able to reach fans in Japan, India, Europe, Australia, South America, Mexico, Canada and every nation in between.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Our initial band breakup that stemmed from a change in the industry music appetite. Scarlett Gypsy was an up and coming rock band in 1991-1992 when the industry changed and left us behind. Beginning in 1991 as a highly admired glam metal hard rock band, Scarlett Gypsy began taking on America as they journeyed the turbulent east coast early 90’s rock scene in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area. Focusing on clubs like The Empire and The Galaxy that launched the careers of bands like Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Britney Fox, Heavens Edge and Tangier along  with hometown hotspot The Tourist Inn that launch bands like Halestorm and Kix.
Fast-forward 20 years – the band reunites and immediately took Google+, Twitter and the rest of the internet by storm. Longing for their music to finally be heard, Scarlett Gypsy put a few songs to some of their concert footage and posted it on YouTube and within a few weeks had over 100,000 views on their Google+ page with fans requesting where they could buy the music. As all things that fade away seem to become fresh again someday, the band decided to independently release their first studio album internationally now available on Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, CDbaby and Bandcamp.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
Tuff-E-Nuff- This is the first song that the band wrote and recorded together and the version included on the debut album is the actual demo that was released as a single B-side on our cassette single back in 1991. The song is about picking yourself up after a break-up and being tough enough to get back out into the game and moving forward. The song is centered around the band going out on the town and drinking some shots and looking for love.

Where can we listen to it?
Our YouTube channel has all eight tracks as music videos https://www.youtube.com/user/ScarlettGypsyBand

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say that I forgot to ask?
We just appreciate that you have selected to write about us and help us get the word out to everyone who loves playing “air guitar” and singing along when some good rock music is playing. Those are the fans that love Scarlett Gypsy.
