The Magickal Q&A

Your name:
Kami Hall.

Where are you from?
Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Name of band:
The Magickal.

Who else is in your band?
Dorian Wilde and David Drockton.

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
We're total nerds. Each in our own unique way. We have done every part of this project ourselves, with basically no budget. Dorian does the orchestration, sequencing, back-up vocals, and also happens to be a gifted graphic designer. He did all of our visuals with a little conceptual help from Kami. David does production, engineering, mixing, is a classical musician, and business manager. Kami is the voice. Writing lyrics and vocals and also taking care of the social media connections. We all help with writing the songs.
We sound like lush, decadent, synths with big bluesy female vocals on top.

Who are your main influences musically?
From Depeche Mode, Erasure, Eurythmics, Yazoo, The Cure, Sigur Ros, Concrete Blonde, Nine Inch Nails, Bjork, to Prince, Donna Summer, and the Beatles (of course).

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We want to bring melody back! We want to rock the boat a bit. We want to show people that music can be both melodic, and smart. It can be both catchy and profound. It can have big vocals and big synths without following typical pop format. Mostly we just want to write really, really good songs.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Being chosen to be a featured  LGBT artist on RightOutTV. It was early for that to happen. We were very grateful.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
The first mix of The Only Sin! We pray it finally got taken down off of iTunes!

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
That's like asking which one of our children we like best! We have an album's worth of songs in various states of development.... so it's just a bit early to say.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your music that I forgot to ask?
Because day jobs are necessary at the moment, life gets in the way sometimes. However; we are almost finished with our third single The Ticket. We also plan on having The Ticket EP finished and released by the end of the year.
