DAVID Bronson will release his third album Questions on January 19th. It follows the New Jersey artist's 2013 double-album debut The Long Lost Story. He told RealSoundsOK: "Each major stage of this record was pure magic. You just know it when you're in the middle of something very special taking place. Everyone present feels it. "It was crucially important to me to produce something that was infinitely more current to my life, and to the much newer place my songwriting has been moving toward.
David is joined on the record by the likes of Bowie guitarist Carlos Alomar and his daughter Lea-Lórien Alomar, guitarist Robbie "Seahag" Mangano, drummer Lautaro Burgos, vocalist Robin Clarke, not forgetting the vocal contribution made by Gordon Godfrey and the production prowess of studio legend Godfrey Diamond (Lou Reed).

NEW York artist David
Bronson is giving away the track Animals from his latest album The Long Lost as a free download. He says of the track: "This is a song about accountability and the opposing forces of recklessness and restraint that fight within each of us. It was written very much as a reaction (not surprising, as the whole project is blatantly so); a perhaps somewhat idealistic plea-scream from a wounded young bleeding heart trying desperately to appeal to some sense of inter-personal responsibility blatantly absent from his experience of relationship. To me, it's also a very pronounced statement of loss." Bronson released his debut album Story earlier this year, with the prequel The Long Lost out more recently in October. WHILE wrapping up the second instalment to his 22-song opus The Long Lost Story, NYC singer songwriter David Bronson has teamed up with Brooklyn beatmaker Silk Lung to revamp Times from his recent debut Story.
You can view the video for the new remix by Silk Lung - aka multi-instrumentalist Jim Orso - above. Bronson said: "I sent Jim the tracks and his first draft was more or less what you hear on the remix. "I was totally psyched, not only because I immediately loved it but also because, while it's obviously a different thing than the original he managed to maintain the essence of the song, sort of the same bones, which I thought was great." The Long Lost - the follow up to Story - will be released this autumn and is produced by Godfrey Diamond (Lou Reed, Aerosmith). THIS is the new video for Outside by David Bronson. The "rather bizarre but beautifully conceptualised" video was created by New York City video, graphics and animation artist Johnerick Lawson. Lawson has previously worked with TV on the Radio for the Nine Types of Light film. You can check out my Q&A with David from back in January here.
DAVID Bronson has released a new video for the track Watch The Sun off his album Story. The New Jersey singer said: "The idea was that the graphic, other-worldly look would lend itself to a song about wanting something you don't have - and the fantasy aspect of concerning oneself with an internal vision that you could almost try to 'will' into existence. "There's also the connection to the line-drawn, 2-D style imagery of the album artwork, which partially stemmed from the desire to have that kind of narrative otherworldliness that accompanies the comic & graphic novel mediums, both of which I'm a huge fan of. "Coincidentally Saro Varjabedian (the video's director) and I had both been thinking it would be cool to try and do something with an 'animation' look to it, so when we initially sat down we locked onto this approach right away, and decided to use Maria Neckam as the metaphorical love interest, since her voice plays this surrogate, or archetypal, role on the records."
Jeremy Bronson – drums;
Robbie 'Seahag' Mangano - guitar, bass; Maria Neckam - Vocals, Keyboards; Jordan
Shapiro - Keyboards, Guitar; and Adam Minkoff – Bass.
My main influences in
music are definitely first and foremost the rock album format and the
vocal-based rock song format. As far as a few other artists, Neil Young, Peter
Gabriel, Paul Simon, John Lennon, Charles Bukowski, Stanley Kubrick.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
I look forward to
continuing to support my artistic life as well as support a family life with my
music.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and
why?
The highlight of my
career so far has been the gift of being able to work on something I find true
meaning in every day. Every other isolated music-related thing pretty much
pales in comparison to that for me (and I'm not great at recalling those kinds
of things on the spot, anyway).
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
I really don't wish to
forget any of the moments of my life. Although some have certainly been
difficult, they have all added up to something I feel very grateful for.
If you could choose one of your songs as an advert for
your music, what would it be and why?
It would be pretty
much impossible for me to choose one song to represent all of my music.
They've all been part of my development as a songwriter, an artist, and a
person, and (I think) show different but equally existing sides of me as an
artist and person. That being said, the song 'Us' from my album 'Story' comes
to mind, for its simplicity of structure, arrangement, and subject matter.
Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I
forgot to ask?
Just that I really
believe, and believe in, what I say and what I write about. I think there is
real, true meaning in life and in art as an extension of life, and I take these
things very seriously.
