TEN-79 Q&A

Your name:
Jim Cadwallender (Bass).

Where are you from?
York, England.

Name of band:
TEN-79.

Who else is in your band?
Gary Luckhurst (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Paul Coleman (Lead Guitar), Wally Youngman (Drums).

How would you describe yourselves?
Ooooh a pigeon-hole genre-type question. Well, I’d say we were an indie/punk/alternative/pop/folk/rock band in a nutshell.

Who are your main influences musically?
We have quite an eclectic mix of influences. Gary is a U2 and The Alarm fan, Paul a big Led Zeppelin and Captain Beefheart fan, Jim a Charlatans and Stone Roses Fan, and Wally just likes music From The Killers to erm Johnny Mathis

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To produce songs we all enjoy writing and playing together and reach as far an audience as possible. It’s a great feeling when you know you touch the lives of people with the music you create.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
We’ve recently been in Fairview Recording Studio in Willerby, Hull. It was the first time we’ve all been in the studio together and we got four tunes down in a day. We were lucky enough to have a superb engineer who understood exactly how we wanted to sound. He enabled us to get that ‘live’ atmosphere on the tracks. There was no layering of other guitar parts. Just simple and raw. These recordings have enabled us to get the music out there and we’ve had some great feedback whilst building an ever increasing fan-base. We’re currently at number two on the Reverbnation rock chart for York.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
None so far as it’s early days but I’m sure we’ll have some moments like this in the future, but hopefully not many!

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I think ‘wayside’ captures the melody, energy and depth of the band both musically and lyrically. All our tunes sound like us but because of our many influences we have a wide scope of variety in our sound which people will experience when listening to us or coming to see us live.

Where can we listen to it?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Yes. We rock.
