Anima Q&A

Your name:
Jay Pearson.

Where are you from?
London, UK.

Name of band:
Anima.

Who else is in your band?
Wilson Ferraz (Vocals/Guitar), Daz Bokhari (Lead Guitar) and Dex Walsh (Drums).

How would you describe yourselves?
We are a tight knit group of musicians who all want to write, play and perform music.

Who are your main influences musically?
One thing that makes Anima such a unique band, in my eyes, is the varied influences in music.  We all have our set favourites, I'm a huge Dave Grohl fan, so QotSA, Nirvana and The Foo Fighters, but we have Wilson who loves The Doors, Muse and many more ranging influences. We are combination of what I like to call, good rock music.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We just want to play and write music we enjoy. Anything else is purely seen as a huge bonus.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Our highlight(s) have definitely been the recording of our Demo EP Kingdoms - https://soundcloud.com/anima-band-music, but also the fact that after the release of the EP we managed to secure 3 headlining slots, one out of town at the legendary Fleece and Firkin in Bristol.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Our first gig, we had been together 2 1/2 weeks, we did a cover set that went surprisingly well... But, the bar, I shall leave unnamed, has a stage about 4ft long, so we were all crammed on it, with Daz being situated down the bottom of some steps below a huge pipe. It was hard to get into the groove when you are restricted.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
I would have to say Kingdoms, this is based on a review of the EP we received in which the writer aptly said: "The world may not be their kingdom yet, but it is theirs for the taking." We believe in all our songs, we will not release a tune if one of use is unhappy with the sound, so don't except any Cradle of Flith influences.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?
Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
Come check us out, our events are all posted onto Facebook and Twitter! Come say Hi! We are ready to show the USA that the UK can produce decent rock music once again!
