Jo Ash.
Where are you from?
Newmarket, UK.
Name of band:
Derecho.
Who else is in your band?
Mike Wheatley (guitar), Marc Zyngier (bass) and Mike
Ellis (drums).
How would you describe yourselves?
If you want one word then 'rock'! If you want more then
we are very much open to interpretation! For example one of our songs
is included in a metal compilation album due out in the US in a couple of
months.
Who are your main influences musically?
We all come from a wide range of musical backgrounds and
all of our influences are fused into the music we play. My personal influences
range from Bowie to Evanescence to Skunk Anansie! The others' influences
range from blues through jazz and rock.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
World domination!
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and
why?
The Willow Festival was a particularly big highlight
because we played to around 1,000 people and had a blast. However, for me, just
the opportunity to play new places, meet new people and perform brand new stuff
gives me a constant high!
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Christmas Eve in a local pub! (Don't ask).
If you could choose just one of your songs to represent
your music, what would it be and why?
At the moment I would say The Silence. Reasons for this
are its representative of the lyrical style that is most prominent throughout
the music as a whole but, musically, it also has elements of everything -
driving rhythm, atmospheric guitar and some haunting piano. It's also catchy
and gets really stuck in your head - which is something we tend to have in most
of our songs!
Where can we listen to it?
Where can we find out more about your music?
