Solemn Promise Q&A

Your name:
Sam Ellis - Thompson

Where are you from?
Northamptonshire, UK.

Name of band:
Solemn Promise.

Who else is in your band?
Dan Hodgkins, Colban Day and Ash Hodgkins.

How would you describe yourselves?
Metal-influenced hardcore. Everyone in the band loves hardcore and metal so our stuff has influences from both genres.

Who are your main influences musically?
Basically a combination of hardcore bands and metal bands, stuff like Terror, Lamb of God, Trapped Under Ice, Final Prayer, Pantera, The Acacia Strain, First Blood and Slayer

What do you hope to achieve in music?
To have a quality time with quality people in as many places as possible and hopefully for as many people to have the chance to check out our stuff as possible. Also, I’d like to eat from a wide variety of takeaways.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Recording at Studio 6 was cool, getting our stuff done in a really good environment with a great producer. Playing with a load of wicked bands like TRC, Polar, Knuckledust, This Is Hell and Brotherhood of the Lake. Playing across the country and seeing kids go mad to riffs I wrote in my bedroom is pretty sweet as well.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
I was pretty ill while we were recording our EP, having a coughing fit so violent that I had to go and throw up was not a pleasant experience just before tracking guitar.

If you could choose just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
We’ve got three tracks off our upcoming EP up for free download, I can’t really pick one out of the three, they’ve all got their own feel to them so it’s impossible to single out one tune as defining our sound. Those three tracks pretty much cover it though.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
We’ve got the rest of our EP out soon so look out for that and come see us at a show!
