Metropolis America Q&A

Your name:
Rick Eddy.

Where are you from?
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA.

Name of band:
Metropolis America.

Who is in your band?
Cristian Mora (Lead Vocals/Bass), Greg Kinter (Guitar/Vocals) and Rick Eddy (Drums).

How would you describe yourselves?
Alternative, indie, electronic.

Who are your main influences musically?
We are inspired by our Cold War upbringings. We have coined our sound "Cold Pop", capturing that tension with a sound reminiscent of The Human League and Green-era R.E.M., as well as more recent artists like The Editors.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Making a connection with those who take time to feel and think.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Making great music and seeing people react positively to it.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Being booked at shows with bands that are completely the opposite of our music.

If you were asked to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
It would have to be our song Bittersweet, because it reflects all the different qualities and influences of all band members individually, coming  together to make a big, gorgeous and epic sound.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your band that I forgot to ask?
The Cold War was about tension, propaganda, and the struggle for global influence.
So is Rock and Roll.
Metropolis America began in Philadelphia in 2010 when musician and songwriter Cristian Mora connected with drummer Rick Eddy. Mora and Eddy, both children of the Cold War, forged a bond that led to the creation of a sound they call “Cold Pop”- a 21st Century take on the sound and sentiment from the Cold War era in the United States. The first product of this connection and sound was the band's “The Cold Pop Singles” ep in 2011. The addition of Greg Kinter on guitar in 2012 helped to shape the latest creation.
In addition to traditional live shows Metropolis America realizes that music is a personal thing so they want to make the show a personal experience. “If that means that we have to create a kickstarter campaign to fly our one fan from Topeka, KS to our rehearsal space to play just for her we will do it. If that means that the ten fans in Dallas that can cover gas costs want us to come down and play just their favorite song we’ll show up.”
The catchiness of cold pop has caught on. Metropolis America’s songs have been featured on two different episodes of the CW’s Hellcats, and in promos for the CBS sitcom Partners. Even brands such as Lord and Taylor, The Sufferfest, and MLS soccer star Stu Holden have used Metropolis America’s music to augment their message.
This summer, Metropolis America share their Cold Pop sound by releasing three singles recorded with Brian Sperber (Julian Casablancas, Moby) . “A Burden Of Our Youth,” will be released this Memorial Day followed by the hook-laden “Bittersweet” around July 4. The final track, the epic “A Stolen Heart In A Stolen Car,” will be available just before Labor Day. Throughout these holidays let's celebrate that the Cold War is history, but Rock and Roll lives on.
