Jupiter In Velvet.
Where are you from?
I am from America but moved to London in 2011. I absolutely love the UK! I am certain that I live here in past lives. I moved back to the USA in spring of 2013 to record ‘Shut Off Your Mind’. I plan to return to the UK in the next month or so and then tour in the UK & Europe in the spring of 2014.
Who else is in your band?
I don’t have any permanent members in my band at this time.
How would you describe yourself?
I am extremely passionate about life in general & music in particular. Unsettled with where I am, where I am going and what I have accomplished. I am very curious about why, a seeker of truth, an explorer of the underside of life and the depths of the soul.
A perfectionist. A person of many contradictions, a freak of sorts, a chameleon, a square peg in a round world. A dreamer, a realist, an affectionado of beauty, color and excellence. I call my music ‘electro dance rock’. It stretches from alt-rock/punk to rock/pop to dance rock, blending & synthesizing influences from the 50s through today.
Who are your main influences musically?
I don’t know if I have any main influences, it really depends on my moods. But if I was held at gunpoint and queried as such, I would say The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Duran Duran, U2, early 80’s new wave & punk, Little Richard. I listen to a lot of current music as well, but I mix it up and don’t allow myself to get overly fixated on any one band or song.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
I hope to make other people’s lives a little happier, bring just a bit more light to a dismal world, perhaps even inspire a few to dredge up the courage to follow their intuition and seek the deeper side of life. I also hope to achieve a degree of financial success where I can just focus on music and even have the means to lend help to others. And oh yea, have some fun!
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
One of my highlights was my recent rise to the top of the ReverbNation London & UK Rock Charts. Another highlight has been all the very positive reviews that I have gotten on my first two CDs.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
I can’t say that there have been any moments that I’d like to forget. The bad times only make the good times that much better.
If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
That is a very hard question! If I HAD to pick just one, I’d probably say the song ‘Jupiter In Velvet’ from my debut CD. It has the energy, passion, punk attitude, seething lyrical content and driving guitar sound that probably represents my music best. If I could pick two more I would say ‘Love Is On My Side’ and, ‘Rock & Roll Girl’, two other songs off of my first CD. They represent the other sides of my music that I dive into – Rock & Roll Girl is more rock-pop, and Love is On My Side is what I call ‘electro dance rock’.
