James Borland (Lead Guitar), Paul Hitchen (Bass Guitar) and Ben Harrington (Drums).
How would you describe yourselves?
Closest way to describe it is guitar-based electronica. We played a show recently at a venue in Manchester. It was absolutely packed and a guy crowd surfed the front with a discount store bag and shouted, “it’s you, it’s recession pop!” We had a laugh about it on stage and that kind of stuck.
Who are your main influences musically?
The Velvet Underground, Oasis, The Kinks, Neil Young, The Beatles, The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, The Libertines, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Foals, The Strokes, Groove Armada and Chemical Brothers are on in the tour van on repeat.
What do you hope to achieve in music?
To fill stadiums, make lots of money and have lots of women.
What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
People singing the songs at shows.
And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Playing our first show supporting a kid’s TV presenter in front of zero people whilst the owner hoovered up. The 16-year-old sound engineer was stood clueless behind a mixing desk of a thousand knobs...fingering his girlfriend.
If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
(Like A) Satellite and Epic 45s. Two very different songs, expressing the same sentiment. One’s electronic dance music, the other’s lo-fi. Both top tracks.
