Golly Gee Whiz Q&A

Your name:
Jennalyn Alonzo.

Where are you from?
Fullerton, California. Two band members are from Hawaiian Gardens, one from La Habra and one from Burbank.

Name of band:
Golly Gee Whiz.

Who is in your band?
(me) Jennalyn Alonzo - Guitar/keys/vox
Erica Torres - Guitar/bass/vox
Oli Navarro - Guitar/bass/vox
Brandyn Marko - Drums/Percussion

How would you describe yourselves?
Indie/alternative rock. We've been described by musicians and venues that have seen us live as similar to the B-52's, The Cure, Motown, Cage The Elephant. We're extremely focused on our live performance and supporting local musicians. Almost every gig we play, we've booked the other talent.

Who are your main influences musically?
Death Cab For Cutie, The Smiths, Gorillaz.
Honestly, each band member has different influences (hardcore, industrial, indie, jazz), but we all really come together with meaningful, real lyrics and sounds that reflects our emotion, however up beat, slow, or crazy.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
We all wish to have our music out there for other people to relate to. Music has helped many people get through difficult times, have a good time out with friends or just think. We're very real with our writing, but also show a sense of humor. Real people are lots of things.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Honestly, for me it has been the shows and meeting other musicians in the area. Supporting the local scene is a high priority of mine and I'm constantly pushing for us and other local bands to contribute and develop to the best of our potential.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
None of it. Everything is an experience, though the local scene does have many promoters/bookers that take advantage of new musicians. I'd like to see that disappear.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
A Little Late. It has some of each of our vocals and shows a lot of what we can do musically.

Where can we listen to it?  http://gollygeewhizband.com/music

Where can we find out more about your music?
We're everywhere & we follow back!  You can find links on our website: http://gollygeewhizband.com

Anything else you’d like to say about your band/music that I forgot to ask?
Currently, we're gigging and raising funds to record our album.  We only have an EP out right now.  Upcoming Events:http://gollygeewhizband.com/shows
