Neutronic Q&A

Your names:
Paul and Iuliana.

Where are you from?

Chester, UK

Name of band:

How would you describe yourselves and your music?
We describe ourselves as down-tempo indie pop, but there are also some elements of trip hop and dreampop in our sound. We share vocal duties and use our contrasting styles and accents (UK/Romania) to try and create something a bit different.

Who are your main influences musically?
Probably The XX as they have that laid back female/male vocal sound. We like the minimal delicacy in acts like Lapsley and London Grammar but really we both listen to a wide range of genres to help shape our songs.

What do you hope to achieve in music?
Currently we are just writing and recording and sharing our music and seeing where it takes us. We are still a new act so we are looking to build our reputation and release a strong set of songs that we are proud of.

What has been the highlight of your career so far, and why?
Knowing that our first song was selected to play on BBC Radio 6 twice in a week (via Tom Robinson) was a big deal! Having it played on BBC regional radio was amazing but this took it to another level.

And what’s the moment you want to forget?
Being so new we haven’t had much in the way of bad experiences. A recent photo shoot outdoors had to be taken indoors due to a sudden hailstorm but that may actually turn out to be a positive.

If you had to pick just one of your songs to represent your music, what would it be and why?
From the first batch of songs written we chose ‘Closer’ to release because it contains all the aspects we want to be associated with. It has a gentle soundtrack with the focus on our differing vocal style.

Where can we listen to it?

Where can we find out more about your music?

Anything else you’d like to say about your music that I forgot to ask?
Our next single ’13 hours’ will be coming soon...
